He comes first! Friendly exes Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs take son Walker out trick or treating

Halloween may be a scary time but it is also a time for families, so this former pair made sure to celebrate with their young son.

Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs did not let the fact that they are divorced stand in the way of taking son Walker out trick or treating.

The one-time couple - who divorced in 2015 and split twp years prior - were joined by some friends to go around New York in hunt of candy on Monday.

The seven-year-old was some sore of swamp monster while his friend dressed as a hockey goalie.

The couple have long championed staying friendly for the sake of their son and, as they walked along, it was clear letting bygones-be-bygones was working.

Also joining in their trick-or-treat fun was the illustrator from Taye's book, Mixed Me, Shane Evans.

The book is to help children like Taye's son and Shane's daughter feel comfortable with their mixed heritages.

Not joining the night out, was the exes' partners. Taye has been dating Amanza Smith since 2014 while Idina recently got engaged to Aaron Lohr.

Idina has previously spoken of the importance of co-parenting with her ex.

She told People: 'Your child comes first, that's all. 'It's all about that. He comes first and you have to get past your own egos and you never talk bad about each other.'
