The award show began with a high-energy medley featuring several of country's biggest stars as it started off with a Merle Haggard tribute by his son Ben and Vince Gill, before moving on to Brad Paisley with Roy Clark, then Carrie Underwood.
The performance medley continued Charley Pride singing Kiss an Angel Good Morning alongside Paisley, then Alabama followed by Charlie Daniels, then Reba McEntire.

The culmination of the star-studded opening medley found all the performers singing together while flanking Randy Travis for 'Forever And Ever, Amen'.
