'Why is your eye like that?' Ellen DeGeneres and Adam Levine pull a fast one on Julianne Moore with awkward prank

It turns out A-listers love a good prank like anyone else.

That was the case on Thursday's edition of Ellen, as host Ellen DeGeneres teamed up with Adam Levine for a prank that nearly had Julianne Moore turning five shades of maroon.

The bit unfolded as Levine took part in a bit called 'You Must Say,' in which he had to supply DeGeneres with a random phrase to incorporate during her interview with the Still Alice Oscar-winner.

The eyes have it: Ellen DeGeneres pulled off a prank on Julianne Moore on Thursday with a hand from her previous guest, Adam Levine

Mission accomplished: Ellen celebrates after getting the Oscar-winner to fall for the gag

"It's my favorite game,' the She Will Be Loved singer, 37, said, adding, 'The band plays that with me!'

The mustachioed Moves Like Jagger rocker came up with a basic-yet-brilliant premise: Have Ellen, 58, ask Moore, 55, 'Why is your eye like that?'

Maroon 5’s lead singer said the idea worked because 'it's a horrible thing to ask somebody, because she'll get super self-conscious about it.'

Quick thinking: Levine came up with the gambit as part of a bit on the program called 'You Must Say'

Rationale: The rock star predicted the actress would be 'super self-conscious' when the question was asked - and he seemed to hit the nail on the head

And even though she was set to interview one of Hollywood's most-acclaimed stars, Ellen was in.

'OK, so you want me to insult my guest, you want me to say, "Why is your eye like that?" and point; OK, that's what I'll say,' she said.

And while Ellen was not the Academy Award-winner in the chat, she pulled off a masterful job in convincing the Hannibal beauty that something was optically amiss.

Influential: On the program, Levine told Ellen that she had come with gave him 'five names to think about' to name his newborn girl, and he chose one: Dusty Rose

"I realized ... what's going on with your eye?' Ellen convincingly said, selling it with concern.

And as Levine predicted, Moore's self-consciousness kicked in, as she was clearly caught off-guard by the question and immediately peppered Ellen with questions of her own.

'What's going on? Like really, for real, where?' Moore said, getting a bit suspicious at the outburst of laughter from the studio audience.

Good sport: While Moore seemed a tad confused about the eye bit, she took it in stride

Like a pro, Moore stayed on point, changing the topic with a reference to the previous discussion about Snapchat, but Ellen had to let her in on the gag.

'So Adam Levine was out here before you got here and he told me I had to work into the conversation [the phrase,] 'Whats going on with your eye?' Ellen revealed. 'So that was him and I had to work it into the conversation.'

Moore seemed confused about the bit, but remained a good sport all the same. She said: 'OK, that's weird - wine time,' triggering a round of laughs from the crowd.
