'You basically named my kid': Adam Levine reveals it was Ellen DeGeneres who suggested the name Dusty for his daughter with Behati Prinsloo

Adam Levine and wife Behati Prinsloo welcomed their daughter Dusty Rose Levine into the world in September.

Since then, many have speculated about the inspiration behind the unique baby name.

It turns out that Ellen DeGeneres - the Maroon 5 frontman's longtime friend - had a huge hand in the naming story, as revealed on her show early Thursday morning.

The 37-year-old pop star stopped by the Ellen Show to share the tale.

The Moves Like Jagger singer recalled his excitement over coming up with a name for his firstborn child, only to be turned down by DeGeneres.

'The name game is a tough game, it's very hard,' the Voice coach recounts. 'Imagine you've written the best song in your life and you have to name it, it's really screwed up to actually have to put yourself through that.'

'So I think I have a great name and I texted Ellen and I asked her, "What do you think?"' he continues. 'And she's like, "I hate it, I think its a terrible name."'

Though DeGeneres wasn't a fan of the original name, which Adam did not reveal on television for reasons unknown, she did have some ideas for the couple.

'She gave me five names to think about...and Dusty was in there. So you basically named my kid.'

'I did name your kid,' the comedienne concluded jokingly.

'I ran it by my wife and she's like, "Eh, no... I don't like it,"' the crooner divulged. 'And I brought it back to her in like the eleventh hour, and I'm like, "Dusty's pretty cool!"'

This time, the Victoria's Secret Angel's sentiments had changed.

When Adam pitched the baby name a second time, the supermodel replied with, 'I love it!'

Though only one picture of the baby has been shared by the new parents, DeGeneres is one of the lucky few who gets daily updates.

'I ask him for my daily dose, because he sends me pictures of her... she is so adorable,' the talk show host gushed.

'If a day goes by without one, I'm jonesing for a baby picture.'

She then brought out the gift and demanded that Adam sing something.

Approved: 'She turned for you!' Ellen exclaimed excitedly

'Dusty Rose is my daughter,' the singer crooned, at which point the display turned and showcased a red babychair that turned for Adam while he sang much like the judges on The Voice turn for their contestants.

'She turned for you!' Ellen exclaimed excitedly.

'That's amazing,' the grateful father concluded.
