On Tuesday she stepped out for a tony Harper's Bazaar event in New York City.

But on Thursday Olivia Wilde decided to keep things more casual as she walked around her neighborhood.

The 32-year-old actress donned a stylish black leather biker jacket for her outing, and decided to pop the collar up, perhaps to shield herself from the autumn breeze.

Under the jacket, the House star opted for a black t-shirt with a white slogan and a print of an astronaut on the front.

On the bottom, she went with a pair of flattering, tight black jeans with a high waist and the cuffs rolled up.

Some black low-cut Vans sneakers with white soles completed the low-key look.

Accessories included some oversize cat-eye sunglasses and a white canvas tote bag.

For the last few season's style-setting celebrities like Rihanna, Hailey Baldwin and Kylie Jenner have been introducing niche skater brands into their wardrobes. It started with NY label Supreme, then Thrasher hoodies became commonplace and recently London skate collective Palace's logo took on this gauntlet. And, now Olivia is kicking it in classic skater brand Vans.

While to many this may seem like any other shoe, to those in the know they will see more to this than meets the eye as sneakers are usually indicative of fashion's current mood.

When the designer of Celine wore New Balances (and the rest of the world copied her) it showed style was edging away from designer labels towards an athleisure look. The same with Stan Smiths, as they became popular they inched us closer to a revival of the late 90s and early 00s trends (hello the return of All Saints and Juicy Couture!)

And, now we come to Vans. As hot label Vetements is mixing metal music and rebellious youth fashion references on the catwalk it's begun to trickle down to the street, feet first you could say, with the revival of this ubiquitous skater shoe.

Jason and Olivia welcomed their son Otis in April 2014 after getting together in November 2011. They've been engaged since the beginning of 2013.
