Donald Trump's son has said former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke 'deserves a bullet.'

Eric Trump made the remark on Thursday when the host of Denver radio station 630 KHOW Ross Kaminsky suggested the White supremacist should be shot in the head.

'The guy does deserve a bullet. I mean, these aren't good people. These are horrible people,' the younger Trump said during the interview.

Kaminsky had asked Eric Trump to comment on how some have tried to tie the former KKK grand wizard, who the host said 'desperately needs a bullet in the head', in support of his father's presidential campaign.

The KKK is the oldest white supremacist group in the United States, tracing its roots back to the Reconstruction period in the South that followed the Civil War.

In addition to anti-black views, it has expressed anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant and anti-gay views and, until recently, was anti-Roman Catholic.

Duke earlier this year voiced support for Donald Trump, saying white people are threatened in America and that he hears echoes of his views in Republican presidential nominee's rhetoric.

Donald Trump then drew criticism in February for failing to quickly disavow support from Duke, who is running US Senate in Louisiana, but he has since publicly rejected the extreme-right endorsement.

'What the left has tried to do to your dad's campaign the whole time is said it's basically an arm of some white national movement or something, can your respond to that,' Kaminsky asked.

'Ross, it's disgusting and by the way, if I said exactly what you said, I'd get killed for it but I think I'll say it anyway, the guy does deserve a bullet,' the younger Trump said.

In response to Eric Trump's remarks, Duke told CNN: 'That's a good one, I'm in the middle of project right now.'

He then asked CNN to call him later, saying 'I have to think about it.'

Trump has tried to woo African American voters in recent weeks, pitching 'a new deal for black America,' last week.

But, the candidate has been criticized for inaccurately portraying African Americans as unemployed people living in ghettos.

He has repeatedly argued that despite their propensity to vote Democratic, African Americans have been let down by the policies of party stalwarts like his campaign rival Hillary Clinton.

On Thursday, Eric Trump was campaigning for his father in Eau Claire, Wisconsin

Eric Trump commended his father for his efforts on Thursday.

'I commend my father. My father's the first Republican who's gone out and said, "Listen, what's happened to the African-American community is horrible and I'm going to take care of it,"' the younger Trump continued.

He went on to say that attempts to tie his father's campaign to Duke were efforts to distract from the power of his father's movement.

'A guy like David Duke is disgusting,' he said.

'But this is the MO of the DNC and in fact, we go back to the Podesta emails from May/June, there's an email where he's saying listen, "We think Trump has an amazing movement going and we want to make him, the only way we think we can best stop is to make him look like a bigot, racist, xenophobic, this and that."'

On Thursday, Eric Trump was spotted campaigning for his father in Wisconsin with just five days until Election Day.
