Blondie star Debbie Harry, 71, shows she's still got her rock star edge as she dons a bold statement jacket and wild two-tone hair at the Q Awards

With a music career that stretches all the way back to the late 1960s, Debbie Harry is often lauded as something of a legend whenever she steps out in rock circles today.

And the 71-year-old star showed that she hasn't lost any of her rock star edge when she stepped out to attend the Q Awards at London's Rounhouse on Wednesday.

The Blondie star arrived at the event wearing a form-fitting black dress, over which she draped a jacket - emblazoned with the words 'stop f***ing the planet' - while her platinum blonde locks were set in a frizzy style with a contrasting black hairpiece.

She's got everybody in a Rapture! Debbie Harry was among the attendees at the Stubhub Q Awards, held at London's Roundhouse on Wednesday night

Retaining an unconventional theme throughout, the Rapture singer rocked a pair of clear, plastic-framed glasses, which featured large dark traingles over each lens.

Standing tall in a pair of black suede heel-less wedges, the evergreen star rounded out her eye-catching ensemble with a metallic silver handbag.

After posing for a steady stream of photographs on the red carpet, the Miami native made her way into the venue, where she rubbed shoulders with a host of fellow musicians, including Mel C, M.I.A., Rick Astley and Edge and Adam Clayton of U2.

Also among the attendees at the Stubhub-sponsored event were rocker Meat Loaf, Matt Bellamy and his Muse bandmates and the members of Madness.

Last year, the star admitted to MailOnline that she doesn't put up old photographs of herself around her home, because it reminds her how much she has aged.

‘It’s horrifying seeing photos of myself from when I was younger,’ she said.

‘It makes me realise how old I’ve become. I still get really surprised when I see myself and realise I’m not young any more.

‘Ageing is scary, and it’s particularly hard for women because we depend on our looks so much, especially if you’re in the public eye.’

She added: ‘I don’t have any photos of myself on the walls at home because I would find that strange... that’s where I escape.’

As the well-heeled guests settled into their seats, former Spice Girl Mel C presented one of the first awards of the night.

As she took to the stage to name the Breakthrough Act, she gleefully declared: 'I'm very happy to be here!'

The award ultimately went to Jack Garratt, who said as he collected his trophy: 'It's been a really tough year to break through as an artist, because every single year this country produces so much talent.

'I'm merely just one of thousands. This is amazing! I wouldn't be here if it weren't for people who deserve it. The people who put me here deserve to have fair ticket prices and music.'

Jack was later back on the stage to present the Best Live Act award to U2 - who arrived at the event without frontman Bono. 

'Thank you for this great honour,' said The Edge, who took to the stage with drummer Larry Mullen Jr. 'I've been doing shows with this man for 40 years, and one day we'll get it right.

'I was in France a few nights ago and Bob Dylan's Idiot Wind came to me, and I thought of the line, "when you reach the top, you're on the bottom". It's such a load of b****cks! I love it. We try to make every show great!'

Larry also enjoyed a moment in the spotlight, as he said: 'I just want to add: It was an amazing tour. It was so unfortunate what happened in Paris, but we were so fortunate to play with the Eagles Of Death Metal before the end of the year.'

Rock band Muse went home with the distinction of being named Best Act In The World Today.

As the band took to the stage to accept their award, beaming frontman Matt Bellamy told the audience: 'Thank you! We are the best act in the world. Come on!

Outspoken musician M.I.A., who wore Giorgio Armani Resort 17 suit for the occasion, was candid during her acceptance speech when she collected her Innovation In Sound award from the members of New Order.

'This is the first thing I've ever won in England,' she told the audience. 'I should have been up for that video category, though. I am honoured.

'I don't really come out of my house but it's nice to see everyone in the music industry. Think it's safe to say 50 per cent hate me and 50 per cent love me. Cheers.'
