The Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (Talos) would effectively give its wearer superpowers, such as the ability to see in the dark, super-human strength and a way of deflecting bullets. The technologies currently being developed include body suit-type exoskeletons, strength and power-increasing systems and additional protection.
Using its ChemCam Remote Micro-Imager, a long-distance, laser-guided camera aboard the rover, Curiosity captured several detailed close-ups of the strange object.

Can YOU solve the car in a box brainteaser taking the Internet by storm? Be warned, only 36 per cent of people get it right!
A new brainteaser is sweeping the web, with thousands of people trying, and failing, to work out the correct answer of which box a car is in. Posted on Brilliant.org the puzzle (pictured) has three boxes, each with a different statement on it. However only one of the statements on the boxes is correct, which allows people to work out what the answer is. Only 36 per cent of people have got it right...so can you?
Major flaws in facial recognition systems revealed: Bizarre 'face stealing' specs can fool them into thinking you are someone else (and can even turn a man into Milla Jovovich)
Researchers have developed glasses that allow the wearer to dodge facial recognition or even impersonate another person by disrupting the system’s ability to accurately read pixel colouration. The colourful frames cost just $0.22 to print, and highlight new ways attackers might be able to evade machine learning technology. In the study, the method has even allowed a man to impersonate actress Milla Jovovich and a South-Asian female to impersonate a Middle-Eastern man, both with near 90 percent accuracy. Pictured, the study’s third author (left) impersonates actress Milla Jovovich (right).

The bottomless 'jacuzzi of despair' that kills almost anything that swims into it: Researchers reveal massive brine pool off the coast of New Orleans
Researchers first discovered a massive brine pool under the Gulf on Mexico in 2015 using a robosub. Now, they have revealed more about the conditions inside. The 65-degree temperature often lures poor, unsuspecting crabs and other bottom feeders looking for food. The first map of it (inset) image was created from 2,000 stills taken by a robosub (main image).
The 'Pillars of Destruction': Stunning animation reveals the Carina Nebula in unprecedented detail
The team, led by Anna McLeod, a PhD student at ESO, based in Garching, observed ten pillars in the Carina Nebula. The spires and pillars revealed in the new images of the Carina Nebula are vast clouds of dust and gas within a hub of star formation about 7,500 light-years away. Researchers used the MUSE instrument on the Very Large Telescope, at Cerro Paranal in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile to create the animation.

The Antarctic melt revealed: Dramatic Nasa images show the staggering loss of ice at the south pole
IceBridge, a project Nasa's Goddard Space Flight Centre in Greenbelt, Maryland, is currently flying a set of 12-hour research flights over West Antarctica, including land and sea ice. The flights are targetting the ice now, at the start of the melt season and are due to end on 19 November. Floating ice is shown left and top right, and a section of the ice sheet with mountains peaking out is shown bottom right.
Cancer survivor, 54, becomes the first person in the world to get a 3D printed face created using a SMARTPHONE
Dr Rodrigo Salazar from Paulista University in Sao Paulo, Brazil, performed the procedure on Carlito Conceiçao, after a tumour ravaged a hole in his cheek. The hand-finished silicon prosthesis has transformed his life by restoring his self-esteem. Pictured inset are the first two stages of the procedure, and pictured main is the final result.
The map that shows what the world REALLY looks like: Japanese design flattens the Earth to show how big landmasses and oceans really are
A Japanese architect has created what may be the most accurate map of the world. Hajime Narukawa used a new map (main) making method called AuthaGraph that divides the globe into 96 triangles, transfers them a tetrahedron and unfold it to be a rectangle - all while keeping the landmasses and seas proportioned. Narukawa created this map to solve the 447 year old problem that the Mercator map (inset) created, which greatly distorts Antarctica and Greenland.
Little green yen: Mysterious emerald-green orb 'UFO' appears over Japan, leaving a trail of sparks behind it
The green orb was seen in Niigata, in the north of the country, in the early hours of Monday morning. Experts say the object was likely to be a fireball, the name given to a very bright meteor. Dramatic footage shows the green orb shooting across the sky before suddenly disappearing. The 'UFO' was captured by a Japanese television channel's weather camera.
Watch the robo-valet in action: Radical new system can automatically lift up your car and carry it to a parking space
The latest parking technology is helping drivers get out of tipping valet attendants. Automated Parking lets users pull their car into the bay of the garage, exit the vehicle, check in at the kiosk (top right inset) and the technology (left and right) will autonomously park the car for you. On firm in particular, Unitronics Systems , has provided architects and developers with the ability to construct more efficient and eco-conscious buildings and parking facilities.
Caught in the act: Stunning animation shows the moon blocking the light from the sun during a partial eclipse
The lunar transit lasted one hour, between 3:56 PM and 4:56 PM EDT (7:59 PM and 8:56 PM GMT). The moon covered 59 per cent of the sun at the peak of its journey across the face of the sun. Washington-based Nasa’s Solar Dynamics Observatory caught the act.
Can YOU see it moving? Bizarre optical illusion featuring a series of 'wobbling' green dots sweeps the web
Just try scrolling past this image and see what happens. It appears to wiggle and wobble, and it's messing with everyone's vision. The zingy pattern is the latest optical illusion to sweep the web. Despite being a perfectly still image, the clever picture seems to move. It was created by Japanese psychology expert, Professor Akiyoshi Kitaoka, who warns that the anomalous motion illusion might make observers feel sick.
