'He's in a bad way': Fans voice concern about 'frail' Meat Loaf on This Morning as he blames back problems on 'weighing 300lbs for most of my life'

He has had a year of bad health - collapsing on stage in Edmonton, Canada this summer and undergoing spinal fusion surgery just four weeks ago.

So it was a visibly more frail Meat Loaf who appeared on This Morning on Friday, sparking alarm among fans for his health. 

Blaming his excessive weight for his back troubles, the 69-year-old singer told host Eamonn Holmes he was feeling 'pretty good. I'm a little tired but I'm okay.'

Looking pale and slimmer than in his singing heyday, Meat Loaf spoke candidly about the health problems he said were partially caused by his previously heavier frame.

'It's probably caused by weighing 300lbs most of my life,' he told host Ruth Langsford. 'I'm now at 220lbs but I was up to 340lbs at one point.

'When you have that much weight on your knees and your back it takes [its toll] although running and jumping around the stage doesn't help.'

Following his appearance, fans took to Twitter to voice their concerns about the 69-year-old singer's health, with some saying he seemed to be having speech problems, while others were shocked at how  'frail' he seemed. 

'Sorry to say but it seems Meatloaf is in a bad way, poor guy,' tweeted Sophie Sweeney while social media user JLOH said: 'Not sure Meat Loaf is as well as he is making out.'

Another fan urged viewers to cut the singer some 'slack' saying: 'Age & ill health can catch up with the best of us. Of course Meat Loaf isn't gonna be how we remember him.'

Meat Loaf also discussed his on stage collapse back in the summer during a show in Edmonton, Canada, blaming his fall on flu. 

'My back operation and my collapsing on stage are connected but they're not connected at all,' he recalled. 'I'd had the flu two shows before we did the Edmonton show.'

The singer said he felt compelled to go on stage despite feeling ill, as his wife is from the Canadian city.   

'All of a sudden, I started feeling dizzy. I didn't want to fall so I sat down, As I sat down, I went,' he said.  'I spent ten days in hospital from dehydration.'

However, the singer hadn't lost his sense of humour, joking with Eamonn: 'I'm 69, but I look like a sex God at 52.

This isn't the first time this week that the singer has sparked fears about his wellbeing. 

On Wednesday, he was seen balancing on a cane as he accepted an award at The Stubhub Q Awards 2016 at The Roundhouse in London.

Upon accepting the Q Hero trophy, Meat Loaf left the audience moved with his passionate speech. 

Fighting back tears, he said: 'Thank you guys, you are so nice. A few years ago Q had me on their cover and they asked if I was the new king of rock and roll, a hero. Let's think about that for a second.'

Meat Loaf is in London to launch Jim Steinman's Bat Out Of Hell - The Musical, and accepted the award from new star of the show Andrew Polec.   

The singer sufferers from Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome that causes an irregular heartbeat and has collapsed twice on stage before, in 2011 and 2003. 

Despite approaching retirement age, the rocker plays dozens of concerts each year.

He dismissed rumors of his retirement in a 2013 interview with London Free Press when he said only his touring days in Europe were coming to an end.
