Reclusive comedian Dave Chappelle set to make his SNL hosting debut on November 12

For the most part he's stayed out of the limelight since his show went off the air back in 2006.

But comedian Dave Chappelle is about to make a very visible comeback, as he has reportedly agreed to host NBC's Saturday Night Live on November 12.

It will mark the 43-year-old's hosting debut on the long-running sketch comedy show.

Appropriately, the musical guest will be hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, who have also stayed under the radar, and haven't released a new album since 1998, according to Deadline Hollywood.

Chappelle's career has included numerous comedy shows and movie roles.

His first big screen credit was in Mel Brooks' delightful Robin Hood: Men In Tights, and he also had parts in flicks like The Nutty Professor, Con Air and Blue Streak.

He took things to the next level in 1993 by both co-writing and starring in stoner comedy Half-baked.

In 2003, he achieved heightened fame and critical acclaim headlining his own Comedy Central sketch series, Chappelle's Show.

Then in 2006 he abruptly exited the series under mysterious circumstances, and opted to focus on his stand-up career.

Comedy Central has ranked him No. 43 in the 100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time, while he has been labelled the 'comedy genius of America' by Esquire magazine.

He'll no doubt bring all of his comedy chops to bear on the election, as he will be hosting the same week Americans head to the polls.

SNL has been enjoying a renewed relevance thanks to the outrageously contentious election, and thanks to some solid performances from Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon, who have played Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton respectively, for various skits on the show.
