'It's so not about sex!' Mo'Nique reveals her open marriage works because of 'simple honesty'

It's been a decade since she first revealed that she and her actor-producer husband Sidney Hicks have an open marriage.

And Mo'Nique simply can't live it down.

The subject came up again when the Oscar-winning actress appeared on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live on Thursday, according to E! News.

Host Andy Cohen asked about the couple's 'do's and don'ts in the bedroom'  and whether they had any rules.

The 48-year-old Oscar-winning actress replied:  'The rule is simply honesty... You find out, it's so not about sex. It's so not about, "Can you be with other people?"

'When you start asking people about relationships — What about this one? What about that one? — often times with people we can't say, "This is how I'm feeling."

'It's simply about I won't take any secrets to my grave nor will he take any to his.'

The star, who was on the show to talk about her new movie, Almost Christmas, added:  'When we first had the (open marriage)  conversation, it was because I was still in the mindset of "I'm an entertainer I'm a performer and I want to have it all."'

Mo'Nique, real name Monique Angela Imes, said that Sidney, hr third husband,  was cool about it.

'He told me, "'‘Mo'Nique, we've been best friends since the tenth grade. Do you think that's going to stop us from loving one another?''

All there: Almost Christmas co-star Omar Epps also joined the ladies on the show

'Date night with out babies': Mo'Nique and Sidney took their 11-year-old twins David and Jonathan plus her son Mark, 16, whom she shares with second husband Mark Jackson, to the Atlanta premiere of her movie Almost Christmas last week

'It was just being able to sit down and have that dialogue to say, "Hey, let's always make sure we're open and honest.'' '

Mo'Nique continued that the public thought Sidney had suggested the open marriage  ‘ because she's a fat girl and he's a beautiful man. I'm like, OK, world. It wasn't his idea. It was mine.'

The star recommends people 'try it for [themselves] and find out,' because 'now, almost 11 years later, it's evolved into this beautiful space of no secrets.'

Meanwhile, Almost Christmas is due out on November 11.
