Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday night, he dismissed allegations he was getting the axe in favour of The Vampire Diaries hunk Ian Somerhalder.

'That would be really hard for them to do, considering we shot both of the movies,' Jamie said.

Dakota and Jamie have spent much of this year shooting that film's forthcoming sequels, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.

All three are based on EL James' novels of the same name, published from 2011 to 2012.

Johnson stars as Anastasia Steele, who begins a steamy and turbulent relationship with a billionaire called Christian Grey, played by Jamie.

The first sequel is slated for release in the US and UK next February 10. Its successor will open in both countries the following February 9.
