And Kate Beckinsale continued her cheeky humour as she shared an Instagram snap on Saturday which poked fun at her unorthodox workout regime.

Clad in just a skimpy sports bra and leggings, Kate is seen honing her abs as she buried her head in a book, while waiting for the dishwasher.

'If anyone else has concerns it is reading "Nutshell" by Ian McKewan while we wait for the dishwasher to finish rinse cycle,' she playfully captioned the image.

The black and white image saw the actress nonchalantly reading a book with one toned leg effortlessly raised up in the arm, which didn't escape the attention of her cute pet pooch, she said.

'Ingrid gets anxiety if she doesn't have eyes on my crotch at all times,' the actress, 43, said of her little pet.

Kate's X-rated sense of humour has gained her a legion of fans, especially after she confessed to embarrassing her teenage daughter.

Appearing on the Late Night Show With Seth Meyers, the Pearl Harbour revealed the teacher initially told her daughter that the drawing of a penis was inappropriate, before Lily had to break the news that it was actually her mother who made the doodle.

The actress confessed to having a habit of rearranging fruit so that it resembled a penis.

'It's like my bat sign,' Kate explained. 'People know I've been there if there fruit bowl has been rearranged.'

Lily is from Kate's previous relationship with actor Michael Sheen, 47, and the actress recently revealed she occasionally sends her daughter photos of her ex completely naked.

During an appearance with Conan O'Brien earlier this year, the star admitted she found few things funnier than a naked man.

She said: 'You made that sound creepy. My daughter and I are both from the school where we find a naked man very funny under the right circumstances.

'There's a funny picture of him in a very good show that he did, in which he was brilliant, but they have a still of him getting out of a bathtub naked, with a quite military face and stance.

'If I sense she's feeling low I'll think, "You know what, she could use Mike in the bath".'

Michael and Kate split in 2003 and he has been in a relationship with comedic actress Sarah Silverman, 45, since 2014.

Speaking to Chelsea Handler on her Netflix talk show Chelsea, Michael explained: 'Our relationship now is probably better than it ever was. And it helps that she [Kate] actually likes Sarah more than she likes me.

He added: 'The only way it doesn't work out is that now I have not only Sarah, but also Kate and my daughter Lily, who all just make fun of me and embarrass me at any given point.

After her relationship with Michael ended in 2003, the brunette beauty went on to marry Len Wiseman.
