'Blessed': Months after his split from Taylor Swift and the revelation that she wrote his hit, This Is What You Came For, Calvin Harris shocked fans by sending her his thanks on Twitter

The tune, which has vocals from Rihanna, came under scrutiny earlier this year, as after the song came out, he said he would never work with Taylor.

Twitter went into meltdown as fans attempted to process the news, with one fan posting: 'I AM LITERALLY SHAKING,' whilst another added: 'WHAT IS LIFE', and one screeched: 'WHATTT THEE HECKK.'

Whilst some users were confused, questioning: 'what?? Are u and Taylor friends now??' others merely accepted the nice gesture, posting: 'YAY! Nice you took your time to quote tay too:) love xx' and 'aww this is what I like everyone thanking and being nice to each other.'

Drama: The couple secretly worked together on the hit single This Is What You Came For but fell out after Calvin said he would never work with her; here they are seen in June

Taylor penned This Is What You Came For under the pseudonym Nils Sjöberg.

According to TMZ, Taylor and Calvin agreed not to release it as a couple for fear it would overshadow the song, so she encouraged him to record the song with Rihanna.

But drama struck after the song's release when the Scottish hitmaker dismissed the idea of ever working with Taylor in an interview.

Discussing the possibility of a collaboration with his then-girlfriend, Calvin told Ryan Seacrest: 'You know we haven't even spoken about it. I can't see it happening though.'

The diss was allegedly 'the breaking point in the relationship', and their split soon followed.

Calvin later took to Twitter to praise Taylor's songwriting skills, but then slammed the singer for trying to make him look bad.

'She sings on a little bit of it too,' he wrote, confirming speculation that some of the 'oohs' in the song were Taylor's vocals. 'Amazing lyric writer and she smashed it as usual.'

He added: 'I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym.'

Confused? Months earlier Calvin had taken to Twitter to praise Taylor's songwriting skills, but then slammed the singer for trying to make him look bad

The tables then turned however, as Calvin accused Taylor of trying to 'bury' him like she did with Katy Perry.

'Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though,' he tweeted. 'I figure if you're happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do.'

Calvin added: 'I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it. Please focus on the positive aspects of YOUR life because you've earned a great one.'

Before signing off, he concluded: 'God bless everyone have a beautiful day.'

Taylor is rumoured to have penned lyrics about her ex in her new song Better Man which she wrote for country group Little Big Town

Their feud appeared to continue this week, with Taylor rumoured to have penned lyrics about her ex in her new song, whilst Calvin allegedly slammed her in his new music video.

Taylor was revealed to have written country group Little Big Town's latest hit Better Man with lyrics such as: 'I gave you my best and we both know you can't say that. We might still be in love, if you were a better man.'

Meanwhile, the music video to Calvin's My Way follows the break-up of a relationship and sees him struggling to communicate with a robot girlfriend.

Calvin spoke out about his split from Taylor for the first time in September, telling GQ they had tried to avoid a 'media circus' throughout their romance, yet suffered the opposite following their split.

'It was completely the wrong instinct,' he revealed. 'I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled.

'It felt like things were piling on top of me and that was when I snapped. I’m not good at being a celebrity, but when it ended, all hell broke loose.

'It clearly wasn't right, so it ended, but all the stuff that happened afterwards.'

His comments came the same night that it was announced Taylor had split from her boyfriend of three months Hiddleston - who she began dating just two weeks after her split from Calvin.
