Girl power! Shannen Doherty honoured at American Cancer Society Gala...as she is supported by her friends Sarah Michelle Gellar and Chelsea Handler

Shannen Doherty had her girlfriends by her side just before she was an honoured with the American Cancer Society's Courage Award on Saturday night.

The 45-year-old was supported by her good friends Sarah Michelle Gellar and Chelsea Handler for a night out at American Cancer Society's Giants Of Society Gala in Los Angeles.

Shannen, who is currently battling cancer, looked seriously chic in a blue velvet suit that showed off her lacy top and was teamed with a cool pair of black platform heels.

She accessorized with a bejeweled choker style necklace, along with hoop earrings and several bracelets.

The former 90210 star's complexion looked extremely radiant with a slick of dark eye liner and tint of pink blush and lip gloss. 

Sarah, meanwhile, rocked a pretty black and multi-tiered dress that showed off her toned arms.  

Chelsea, on the other hand, kept things simple in a classic black number that showed off her stunning figure.

Sarah recently showed her support for Shannen by sharing a touching message in honour of her friend, calling the actress her 'every day muse.'

My #mondaymuse (and really every day #muse) is my brave friend @theshando,' she wrote in the caption of a photo of themselves on Instagram. 

'I've always said she is one of the most loyal friends I've ever known, and now while she is facing the toughest journey of her life, she is sharing it with friends she has never met in the hopes of helping other people who are going through the same struggle. That's a true friend #F**kCancer.'

Meanwhile, Shannen and Chelsea have grown close since Shannen was diagnosed.

The actress recently appeared on the talk show host's Netflix show, Chelsea, as she discussed what having the terrible illness has taught her in an upcoming interview. 

Recently Shannen shared a picture of them together and spoke of their bond.

She wrote on Instagram: 'And then there is this lady.... @chelseahandler We met many many years ago. Have run into each other and always exchanged numbers, talked of plans etc. Chelsea reached out and has since, made a point to have date nights with me on a weekly basis.

'Yeah she's funny but also wicked smart with a huge heart. This one just wants to make a difference. Sometimes the right people come into your life at the right time.' 

Shannen didn't have just her two friends to lean on for support that evening, as the Heathers star was joined by her husband, Kurt Iswarienko.

Taking the stage: Doherty appeared moved as she made her remarks from behind the podium inside the event 

The film producer was attached at the hip to his wife, tenderly wrapping an arm over her shoulders. 

While at the event, Shannen spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the recent cancer diagnosis of Michael Buble's three-year-old son, Noah. 

'I can't even begin to touch that one to be honest, because it's a 3-year-old,' she told the website. 'I would imagine your child having cancer is devastating as a parent.'

The actress encouraged the family to 'stay positive' and to 'trust in your doctors.'

Shannen has been documenting her battle against cancer on social media since being diagnosed in 2015, and revealed in August to Entertainment Tonight that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.

She also said she had a single mastectomy over the spring.

The star recently updated fans on the progress of her treatment, revealing she will be moving onto radiation.

'My crew of girls': Doherty was surrounded by loved ones that evening, as she captioned a photo of herself with her friends, 'My crew of girls. Love you all. Thank you for being there for me and for tonight' 

'Sometimes it seems like chemo will never end,' she wrote in a snap of her with her medical team. 'Sometimes you wonder if you have the courage to face cancer and all that comes with it. Dig deep. The courage, strength and tenacity is there inside us all. This is my crew......Dr Lawrence Piro, nurse Dawn and the wonderful Joyce. These 3 got me thru chemo. Hope to never see them in the chemo room again!!! Onward to radiation.'

The actress told Press Association inside the event of finishing up chemotherapy, 'I'm feeling ridiculously lucky and very blessed. Cancer has changed my life for the better.'

'It's made me a better human being....It exposes who's not really truly there for you and who really is there for you. It's this brilliant thing where you just look around and think, "Oh my God, this person is amazing, they're showing up for me in a way I never expected".'
