Music mogul David Foster has no doubt heard his share of melodic voices.

Which means he probably appreciated Kate Hudson's strong effort at his birthday party on Friday.

The 37-year-old Fool's Gold star took to the stage in a black, backless halterneck dress and proceeded to rock out with guitarist John Mayer, 39.

With her blonde tresses up in a high braided ponytail, Kate belted out some bluesy lyrics, which also seemed to impress singer Seal, 53, who was also on stage.

David Foster's actress daughter Sara captured the whole thing for Instagram, and added the text 'and she can sing' for the first few seconds.

Her caption read, 'We threw a little birthday party for dad last night,' which was followed by a number of festive emojis.

David Foster, who just turned 67, split from model and reality television star Yolanda Hadid last year, who is mother to Gigi and Bella Hadid.

On Saturday, Kate was out and about in Malibu, and managed to show off her enviably toned midsection thanks to a strangely cut, airy top.

She also donned some baggy black and white print trousers, black sandals and some wild, clear-frame cat-eye sunglasses for her outing.

A light black coat was draped over her right shoulder and she carried her belongings in a tan fringed purse.

Her distinctive blonde locks were tied up in a sensible bun.

Earlier in the week Kate was quite excited when she found a sweater her mom had knit for her when she was in her teens, and shared the vintage garment with her Instagram followers.

The Almost Famous star looked as hip as ever in the snap, which made the vintage garment look downright stylish.
