Joel Edgerton is unrecognizable in orc make-up as he joins Will Smith on set of new Netflix fantasy series BrightÂ
Netflix famously paid $90 million for Max Landis-scripted fantasy Bright.
And on Sunday it wasn't hard to see why, what with stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton headlining the cop thriller.
Joel, 42, was unrecognizable in orc make-up as he stood beside co-star Will, 48, on the Los Angeles set in a scene that had the duo receiving medals from the mayor.
Getting down to business: Will Smith and Joel Edgerton (R) were spotted wearing cop uniforms as they filmed scenes for David Ayer's Bright on Sunday in Los Angeles
Will, who plays a human cop, looked to be getting along well with his orc counterpart during filming, as the two were spotted bursting into laughter.
They were dressed for the part in fitted police uniforms, caps, and white gloves as they posed on a stage for the film's ceremony.Â
Bright is being directed by David Ayer, with whom Will just worked for DC Comics flick Suicide Squad.Â
Having a blast! Will looked to be enjoying himself on set as he was spotted bursting into laughter
Getting along nicely: The film's leading men couldn't stop laughing while on set on Sunday
Can't help it! Will seemed to be trying to calm himself down after the laughing fitÂ
A fun set: They must have been shooting quite the entertaining scene on Sunday
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's Noomi Rapace is also starring in the movie, which is said to be a mix of David's 2012 cop film End of Watch and 1988 sci-fi thriller Alien Nation starring James Caan and Mandy Patinkin.
Alien Nation featured a human and an alien cop who were forced to work together. Bright will have a human cop (Will) working with an orc (Joel).Â
The unlikely duo will team together to find something that more unsavory creatures are prepared to kill for: a powerful wand.Â
This guy! Will gestured to co-star Joel as the two filmed a scene in which their characters were awarded medals by the mayor
Is that you? Joel was unrecognizable in prosthetics and make-up as he portrayed Will's orc partner in the scenes
Partners: The cop duo shared a hug in one of the scenes from Sunday
Happy to be here! The film takes place in a world where magical creatures live side by side with humans and the police have a division handling crimes involving magic
The setting for Bright is reported to be a world where magical creatures live side by side with humans and the police have a division handling crimes involving magic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Los Angeles setting was important to David, who has made it the location of all of his cop procedurals.
Bright, which will reportedly be R-rated, is expected to be akin to Men in Black in regards to its VFX and commercial qualities, which is not something Netflix has done up to this point.Â
Somber: The scene from Sunday also looked to be a memorial for fallen officers
What's that? The Oscar nominee seemed concerned with something as he could be seen showing off a worried face while gesturing upward
Leading man: Will is set to play one-half of the cop duo charged with stopping unsavory elements from acquiring a powerful wand
Fantasy: Joel is the other half of the dynamic duo in a picture that's  said to be a mix of David Ayer's 2012 cop film End of Watch and 1988 sci-fi thriller Alien Nation
Netflix has been making strides to produce movie content, but have so far not reached as much success as with their original series.
They have a deal for a series of films from Adam Sandler, though many have said that the star's big-screen power has waned.
They also made critically-acclaimed drama Beasts of No Nation with Idris Elba, though it was said that the film's Oscar potential suffered since it wasn't as widely seen.
In character: Joel, who was covered in make-up and prosthetics to play an orc seemed a bit more grim on set
Whimsical: Others were spotted wearing bright colors and prosthetic ears to create the film's fantasy settingÂ
Snack time! Will grabbed a bite to eat as he enjoyed a break on set between takes
Lending a hand: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum looked to be in good spirits as a member of the crew adjusted his costumeÂ
Variety reported that the hope was for production to get underway for the film as soon as possible so Will and David could get ready to film a sequel to Suicide Squad.
Bright is scheduled to hit Netflix in 2017.
