'He's realised he's made a mistake': Radio star Andy Lee is trying to win back ex-girlfriend Rebecca Harding after the pair split because of his 'commitment issues'

The high-profile radio host announced his shock split from girlfriend Rebecca Harding in August.

And now Andy Lee is trying desperately to woo the Melbourne-based model once again, according to Woman's Day.

The 35-year-old was seen flirting with his former lover at Derby Day on Saturday, stealing the brunette away from the crowds and whispering in her ear.

In happier times: Andy Lee and Rebecca Harding were dating for 18 months before their shock split earlier this year - and it is now reported Andy regrets his decision

According to a source, the pair have always enjoyed 'great chemistry' despite their problems.

'They split because he has commitment issues - she wanted to take their relationship to the next level but he wasn't ready,' they told the magazine.

'They may have been dating for 18 months but it was telling they weren't living together.

Co-hosts: Andy (L) is known for his role on the Hamish and Andy Show, alongside co-host Hamish Blake (R).

'But he's realised he made a mistake and has been desperate to win her back.'

The radio funnyman last month revealed to his co-host Hamish Blake that he'd accidentally finished a recent phone call with the 25-year-old by telling her he loved her.

'I had found out that Bec had got a new job, so I was ringing her to congratulate her on the new job', said Andy during a segment aired on the Hamish And Andy Show

'We're chatting away and we're getting towards the end of the conversation, when Dad rings through on the other line,' he continued.

Will she come back? The pair were seen spending time together in Melbourne at Derby Day on Saturday as Andy reportedly flirted up a storm

'So I said to Bec: 'Hey Bec, I've got to go, dad's calling through' and she says no problem. I said: 'Thanks very much. Love you'.'

Andy went on: 'And at that point I just realised I'd said 'I love you', which was something you were allowed to say a while back, back when you were going out.'

'But it's not the sign off of choice now. I went 'Ahhhhh!' and hung up the phone,' he concluded.

Meanwhile, Rebecca was seen cosying up to hunky graphic designer Daanen Nootenboom in September, sparking rumours she was moving on from her ex.

The pair appeared at two fashion launches, one for Diesel and one for GOOD CMPNY, and looked very comfortable together in front of the cameras.

Still on the scene? Their rumoured romance was never confirmed however and it is not known if he is still on the scene

At the same time, Hamish was trying to set Andy up as the next Bachelor - a cause not supported in any way by the heartbroken man.

He was asked about it during a segment on The Project in early September, when he appeared to promote his new children's book, Do Not Open This Book.

'Hamish has been sending this alight for as long as possible,' he told Carrie Bickmore.

'Absolutely no! That would be my answer.'

He only has eyes for Rebecca! Andy recently told Carrie Bickmore on The Project he was not interested in becoming the next Bachelor
