'How am I supposed to wait for that?!' Poldark fans are sent into a spin over a dramatic series three trailer - which reveals the first glimpse of Elizabeth's baby

  • Poldark fans were treated to the series three trailer right after the finale
  • Ross and Demelza are together but they're set for drama with Elizabeth
  • Elizabeth dropped the bombshell that she was expecting a baby
  • Several hunky new faces will be joining the cast alongside Aidan Turner

The series two finale of Poldark had fans totally distraught that it had come to an end after a rollercoaster ride of action, pent-up emotions and the apparent lack of revenge.

Viewers were left disappointed that Demelza Poldark (Eleanor Tomlinson) didn't punish her husband for cheating on her with his ex-fiance Elizabeth (Heida Reed) in those controversial rape scenes, but all was forgiven when the series three trailer was revealed.

Fans were left on the edge of their seats when scenes from the new series, which the cast along with Aidan Turner have been busy filming, showed several new faces set to join the epic drama.

Aidan Turner will be back as Poldark and in the third series will "traverse new family, new loves and new battles, as the French revolution casts a shadow over life in Cornwall'

At the end of series two Demelza and Ross reconciled despite his betrayal and for series three it seems the rocky couple are back on and even keel... for now

Poldark fans are keen for series three to start as soon as possible and have taken to Twitter to express their delight at a teaser trailer for the show which is set to air in 2017

One fan simply commented: 'OMG OMG OMG,' before then adding, 'After the amazing preview, I'm supposed to wait until September 2017?! *cries* amazing season, thank you!'

Another poster took to Twitter to share her thoughts: 'BRILLIANT - and what a teaser for series 3; the younger generation is upon us!!'

'What will we do until next year? FABULOUS ending to an amazing season! Can't wait for S3! Please let it be in the spring!!!,' one desperate fan said.

While other gushed with praise for the producers and BBC: 'Thank you so much!!! I can't wait to see season 3!'

'I loved this series and the ending. Can't wait for the third.'

The main characters are confirmed to return and after series two ended with a newly-married Elizabeth finding out she was pregnant with what could be Ross's baby, it's surely set to be a trying time for Demelza and Ross.

While there's no dialogue in the trailer, there are plenty of other indications about the state of the couple's relationship, with an extreme amount of brooding from Aidan Turner and wistful glances from Eleanor Tomlinson.

Ross will also be fighting for Demelza's attention when her long-lost brothers Drake (Harry Richardson) and Sam (Tom York) turn up in Cornwall.

Elizabeth (Heida Reed) dropped a huge bombshell at the end of series two - that she was pregnant with a baby - and she will have to face the consequences of spending the night together with Ross

Elizabeth's cousin Morwenna (Elsie Chappell) is also a new face for series three and she will no doubt get temperatures rising with a steamy romance with a mystery man

Elizabeth will be joined by her cousin Morwenna, played by Ellsie Chappell. She appears to be having some steamy illicit affair with an unknown topless male which will be sure to thrill viewers.

There's also a new handsome addition to the cast with actor Josh Whitehouse, playing aristocrat Hugh Armitage who will no doubt set hearts racing and have significant consequences for Ross.

"We're thrilled to be kicking off series three with a fantastic array of new characters and a story which scales new heights of conflict, feuding, passion and drama," script writer Debbie Horsfield said.

Josh Whitehouse is another new member of the cast for the third outing. The handsome actor will provide Aidan Turner with some healthy competition for those popular shirtless scenes

Demelza and Ross are happy for now but her wistful glances in the trailer suggest she's got her mind on other things

"Ross is older but not necessary wiser, and his recklessness sometimes costs him, and his loved ones, dear. We're in for a rollercoaster ride where the stakes have never been higher."

Jack Farthing is also returning as Elizabeth's evil husband George Warleggan, and Ruby Bentall as Verity, Luke Norris as Dr Dwight Enys and Caroline Blakiston as Aunt Agatha are all back for the third outing.

Of course Ross' servant Jud Paynter, played by Phil Davis, will not be back after he met his untimely end during the second series, but his on-screen wife Prudie (Beatie Edney) will be.

The third series is based on The Black Moon and the first half of Winston Graham’s sixth novel, The Four Swans

Demelza's brother Drake - a free-spirited rogue - will no doubt stir things up alongside his two siblings

The third series is based on The Black Moon - which picks up several months after Elizabeth's marriage and is perhaps why her baby bump is so prominent in the trailer - and the first half of Winston Graham’s sixth novel, The Four Swans.

Aidan Turner hopes to remain on Poldark for as long as possible and wonders how the time jump in the books will work as Ross gets older

According to the book, Elizabeth gives birth to a son called Valentine who bares a striking resemblance to Poldark, but she's already told Warleggan that he is the father of the baby.

Set in 1794, those two books see Ross "traverse new family, new loves and new battles, as the French revolution casts a shadow over life in Cornwall" - because Demelza and Elizabeth are clearly not enough for him.

Filming began back in September and the show will be set to air next year, with nine episodes this time around.

There are 12 books overall that could be used for source material, which could essentially lend itself to at least another couple of series which the hunky lead star is keen for.

Aidan has previously said he wants to stay with the show: 'If it continues to be where it's at, I can't see a reason why we wouldn't continue.

'There's a big time jump between two of the books and Ross gets older – and I can't pull off mid-50s! So I don't know what will happen.'
