She many have been in one of Los Angeles' premier neighborhoods, but this star was not taking any chances.

Renee Zellweger clung tightly to her handbag as she left a party in the Hollywood Hills on Sunday.

The 47-year-old left the afternoon bash with a friend and looked very relaxed - sans for her death grip on her bag.

What was in the overstuffed black bag was not clear, but was abundantly so was the star was not letting it out of her sight.

Tight grip asides, the Bridget Jones star smiled away as she headed back to her car in a casual but sleek all-black look.

For her party, the Texas-born actress wore a black romper with a pair of Gucci black loafers.

Renee finished off her look by throwing on a pair of classic Ray Ban Wayfarers.

The 47-year-old wore her hair in a messy half up, half down 'do which allowed for her golden locks to stay out of her face but still cascade down her shoulders.

Renee was no doubt enjoying having some time to hang out with friends after a non-stop promotional tour over the last few months for her film Bridget Jones's Baby.

While it was released in September in the US, the international release has been staggered and just two weeks ago the star was in japan spruiking the film.
