Speaking to the Mirror Online about his departure from the globe-conquering show, the actor revealed that Steven (Glenn) and him were unable to audition for new roles till last week.

' [I] Don't know yet,' he laughed when asked about his next move. 'Both Stephen and I weren't even able to pursue work until last Monday so we'll have to see what's next.'

But the constraints on looking for his next job don't seem to have bothered the actor in the slightest, as he said he thought it was 'f***ed up' to spoil big plot twists.

Casting his mind back to the months of secrecy, he said: 'It was pretty awesome to keep that secret. It was fairly easy for us not to talk about it - although the Internet is pretty eager to find out what is going on and ruin it for everybody else.'

He added: 'I love when people discuss things and discus theories, but when people really go out of their way to ruin something for people it's kind of f***ed up.'

Speaking about the series opening in which former soldier Abraham was killed, Michael said he thought it could be ranked alongside Dallas' classic cliffhanger.

In a stomach-churning premiere, Negan crushed both heroes' skulls in a brutal and sickening display of power.

With the rest of their Rick Grimes' group watching on helplessly, Negan, went to work with his barb wire covered baseball bat, Lucille, during a game of Eeny Meeny Miny Moe.

He had a good run: Original gang-member Glenn met his end a few moments later, as he was also beaten to bloody pulp by the show's latest villain

Using the deaths to get Rick's group under his control, Negan told them he would return one week later to collect whatever offerings they had gathered for him.

Following the murders the group were a mere shadows of their former selves as they looked down on the destroyed forms of their comrades.

The bloody and horrifying start to the show sent viewers into meltdown, with many posting their shocked, tearful and even terrified reactions to the murders on social media.
