Chance the Rapper leads a crowd of thousands through the streets of Chicago so they can vote early

Chance the Rapper has led thousands of people from a concert he headlined through Chicago's business district and to an early voting site.

Chance, real name Chancellor Johnathan Bennett, who is from the West Chatham neighborhood of Chicago, is hoping to mobilize Latinos, African-Americans and young people to vote.

The 23-year-old, who collaborated with Justin Bieber in 2013, took to the stage with other entertainers such as Twin Peaks on Monday afternoon at Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park.

'I want you to bring all that energy [to the polls],' Chance told the hyped crowds.

The event sponsored by his nonprofit group Social Works was geared toward millennial voters.

Afterward, at around 6pm, Chance led the crowd through rush-hour traffic to the voting site, where a long line of voters was already waiting to cast ballots.

'I think everyone felt really empowered. We're sure of ourselves, and we know that we can go out and make a difference,' voter Ariel Pritchard told ABC7

People taking part in the march shared video and images on social media alongside the hashtag #StayWokeAndVote.

Paige Davis shared a clip from the concert and wrote 'thank you for bringing us together for something this powerful'.

Chance went inside the polling place and voted.

The Parade to the Polls on Monday was a nonpartisan event but Chance has previously voiced his support for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

On Friday he performed at a Clinton rally in Cleveland alongside Beyonce, Jay Z, and J Cole.

Illinois' State Board of Elections says nearly 1.3million people cast in-person early ballots through Sunday, surpassing turnout in previous presidential contests.

In Chicago, polls opened today at 6am.
