'You've made my life more beautiful': Taylor Swift wishes Lorde a happy 20th birthday with sweet message on Instagram and a handmade card

She's been a solid member of the 'squad' for years.

And on her 20th birthday, Lorde received an adoring birthday wish from her BFF Taylor Swift, who took the opportunity to recall their first meeting years ago.

'Thank you for the music you make, the advice you give, the thoughts you provoke, and the way you've made my life more beautiful since the first day we met up in New York and ate burgers on a park bench and got attacked by squirrels,' the 26-year-old shared via Instagram on Tuesday.

'Thank you for the music you make': Taylor Swift has shared a sweet birthday message to celebrate her BFF Lorde's big day on Instagram

'I. Love. You. So. Much. Ella. (sic)' Taylor concluded her post to Lorde, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor.

The birthday dedication was accompanied by a photo of a watercolour card, which appeared to be homemade by the Shake It Off hitmaker herself.

The blonde beauty had painted the number 20 in purple glitter paint on the front, with a wreath of leaves and flowers intertwined with 'Ella' around it.

'I love you Ella': The Shake It Off hitmaker had made a watercolour card with Lorde's age and real name Ella on a white canvas, surrounded by gold stars

Taylor added gold stars throughout the canvas for a magical finishing touch.

Lorde, who was born in New Zealand, has spent a great deal of time in the US in recent months, where she is believed to be working on new music.

In August, the Royals songstress hit back at a fan who threatened on social media to 'give up' on her if new music wasn't released soon.

Cute: Taylor recalled meeting the Royals singer for the first time, writing: 'You've made my life more beautiful since the first day we met up in New York and ate burgers on a park bench'

The heated social media exchange began when the fan wrote on Lorde's Instagram account: 'Do you think we will ever get another album or should we just give up on you as an artist?'

She responded: 'Give up on me if you want to!

'I'm an artist, I write a record when I have enough special stories to tell, and it's all me, every melody every lyric, not some team who just start the machine up every eighteen months like clockwork.'

Bonding: Lorde has been a member of Taylor's girl squad since the pair met at a pre-Grammy Awards party in 2014

'The record is written, we're in the production stages now. I've worked like a dog for a year making this thing great for you guys.'

Over the past few months the singer has been dropping hints that a new album would be dropping in the neat future.

It has been two years since Lorde released her first studio album, the musical masterpiece which ultimately catapulted her to fame.

Hitting back: The New Zealand-born singer, who is currently working on a new record, recently hit back at a fan who threatened to 'give up' on her if she didn't release music soon
