The purr-fect cure! Mandy Moore reveals she called a pet PSYCHIC 'as a last resort' to get her cat to stop crying at night

He's feline fine now.

But Mandy Moore was more than concerned when Addy, one of her two cats, began howling all night after she moved into an apartment following her divorce from Ryan Adams in June.

But the reason - and the cure - surprised Ellen DeGeneres when the 32-year-old told the story on her show on Tuesday. 'I called a pet psychic,' the actress dished.

The tale of the cat: Mandy Moore shared a really strange story about her feline friend Addy on The Ellen Degeneres Show on Tuesday

Mandy, who is dating Dawes front-man Taylor Goldsmith, explained: 'I tried everything to stop him,' adding that Addy 'was like a baby keeping us up all night.'

The This Is Us star continued:  'I had a friend who had had a difficult period with his dog and he called a pet psychic. So that was my last resort.

'I called this woman and she told me that their (my cats) names were Addison and Maddy, my ex-husband had named them after the two Moonlighting characters.

'And i was like, "OK I don't understand what's going on with him." And she told me he hated his name, Addison...'

Keeping her up: The 32-year-old was really concerned when Addy began 'crying like a baby' every night after she moved into an apartment following her divorce from Ryan Adams

Ellen broke in, saying: 'Wait, did this woman come to the house?'

The beautiful brunette replied: 'No, we did it all on the phone. She didn't see a picture, she didn't ask me anything about them, I just regaled the situation.

'She said he hates his name and the reason he's crying all night is because he loves the acoustics in the apartment and he wants to hear himself sing.

'I tried everything': But nothing soothed Addy, although his furry purry friend Maddy was fine

Last resort: The actress called a pet psychic on the advice of a friend who told her Addy howled because he liked the acoustics in their new home and he wanted to change his name to Figaro because he loved singing

'So he would love for you to change his name. He loves the name Fig like Figaro, because he loves to sing.

'And I kid you not, we started calling him Figaro and the crying at night stopped immediately. It's crazy!'

Ellen also asked Mandy about her new NBC show This Is Us, which airs on Tuesdays, saying: 'It's very emotional, is it intended to make us cry all the time. Do you cry when you watch it?'

'I kid you not':  The audience howled when Mandy said, 'We started calling him Figaro and the crying at night stopped immediately. It's crazy!'

Shimmering star: Mandy combined a simple T-shirt with a black sequin skirt for the show

'Yes, we do,' she replied. 'We cry during the table reads, when we read the scripts at home by ourselves. I cry when I watch the show.

On the plus side, she told Ellen: 'We've become de facto therapists 'because people come up and say like "Oh, I have to tell you about my relationship with my father or my brother."

'So all of us hear the trials and tribulations of people's lives and there's something really lovely about that intimate experience and people wanting to be so vulnerable.'

'We cry all the time': Mandy also talked about her NBC show This Is Us, saying the cast had become 'de facto therapists' to fans who shared their problems with them
