Family fun run! Drew Barrymore and daughters turn out to support her ex-husband Will Kopelman as he runs New York City Marathon

They insisted divorce would not get in the way of them 'being a family' when they split earlier this year.

And Drew Barrymore proved this beyond doubt when she shared adorable photos of herself and her daughters as they supported her ex-husband Will Kopelman as he ran the New York City Marathon on Sunday.

The make-up free 41-year-old looked full of joy as she posed up with Will, their girls Olive, four, and two-year-old Frankie, and a group of family members after he crossed the finish line.

Getting their hearts racing: Drew Barrymore and her daughters were thrilled to pose up with her ex-husband Will Kopelman after he ran the New York Marathon on Sunday

Perhaps most adorable of all was the image of Will, 38, holding his girls after he crossed the finishing line, which Drew captioned: '#girlswhocheerdadon #nycmarathon well done!!!'

The ET star also added that 'to finish is to win' and told her former lover, 'well done' as she shared a variety of images from the day.

The New York City Marathon courses through the five boroughs of the Big Apple, and is the largest marathon in the world with around 50,000 people finishing the event.

Will, 39, managed to complete the challenging 26.219 miles run in five hours, 21 minutes and 19 seconds.

Keep on running: Once the excitement of finishing wears off he will no doubt be aiming to run quicker next year after finishing with a below par time

No doubt the art consultant, who is the son of former Chanel CEO Arie Kopelman, will be hoping to improve next time he takes part, as the average time it takes to finish the race is four hours 38 minutes and 27 seconds.

In addition the average time it takes a man to run a marathon in United States is four hours 32 minutes and eight seconds.

When they split up back in April, the pair, who were friends for years before marrying in 2012, said they, 'we do not feel this takes away from us being a family.'

When Charlie's Angels favourite Drew filed her divorce papers they suggested there would be no messy fights between them, and the divorce was characterised as uncontested.

The actress was married twice before, with both unions lasting less than a year.
