- Prince confirmed relationship with angry outburst over privacy intrusions
- But Meghan Markle, 35, runs website giving constant updates on her life
- Actress has section for news sharing more than 100 articles about herself
- Posts regular photos of her life to more than a million Instagram followers
She describes her website as a lifestyle blog for those who have a love of cooking, travel, style and ‘timeless allure’.
But among her organic recipes and beauty tips, it also provides a platform for Meghan Markle’s frequent self- promotion as a ‘global citizen’.
So much so that the site – which she has run for the past three years – has an entire section dedicated to the press coverage of herself. Miss Markle, 35, has shared more than 100 news articles about herself from magazines and newspapers around the world, including the UK. She sometimes shares such articles several times a week.
Her site – known as The Tig – is described as ‘a hub for the discerning palate – those with a hunger for food, travel, fashion & beauty’. She said setting up the website was an attempt to ‘reframe the beauty content to include think pieces about self-empowerment’ and feature dynamic, inspirational women.
In a blog post on the site, she explained: ‘I’ve never wanted to be a lady who lunches – I’ve always wanted to be a woman who works.’ But Miss Markle also regularly shares intimate details about her daily life, family and friends on the website to her 100,000 followers.
She then promotes these posts further to her million-plus followers on Instagram and 330,000 on Twitter.
The TV actress also often posts revealing photographs of herself on the website.
In one article, entitled ‘the birthday suit’, she discusses body confidence alongside a coy photograph of herself appearing to pose naked. In other images on the blog, which can be seen by anyone who types her name into a search engine on the internet, she poses in bed.
In a post last month – before news of her relationship with Prince Harry emerged – she wrote about her humanitarian work, sharing seven photographs of herself with children on a recent trip to Rwanda.
In the article, she speaks at length and in detail about her mother and father and their careers, as well as where she grew up and her experiences as a child.
Stay suits sleek like Meghan in a bodysuit from Reitmans
Meghan Markle looked super sleek in her faux leather pencil skirt and bodysuit ensemble promoting her new line with Reitmans, a well known Canadian high street department store.
The Suits actress and now Royal dater took a tip from Kim Kardashian, that a bodysuit is one of the hardest working pieces in a woman's wardrobe.
Bodysuits can be very versatile when it comes to styling statement skirts, trousers or jackets, and will flatter the figure without stealing the limelight from other key outfit pieces. When you're stuck for something to wear on your night out, you'll definitely be reaching for your new all-in-one.
You can buy Meghan's exact bodysuit from Reitmans by clicking the link (right), or if you want the look for less, browse the options below, starting from $14 at Boohoo. Practically giving it away!
She says: ‘I was born and raised in Los Angeles, a California girl who lives by the ethos that most things can be cured with either yoga, the beach, or a few avocados. I’m being cheeky, clearly.’
Miss Markle adds that she has a ‘free-spirited clinical therapist for a mom, and the most hardworking father you can imagine (a television lighting director by trade), I always had a foot in two worlds, because their work and home environments were so vastly different.
‘With my mom, we spent time traveling to remote places – taking trips to Oaxaca, Mexico, where I saw children play in the dirt roads, peddling chiclets for a few extra pesos to bring home.
‘My mother raised me to be a global citizen, with eyes open to sometimes harsh realities. I must have been about ten years old when we visited the slums of Jamaica. I had never seen poverty at that level and it registered in my glazed brown eyes.’
Later in the post she says she once heard a radio advert for a soap powder which said ‘women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans’.
She recalls: ‘The boys in my classroom yelled out, “Yeah, that’s where women belong. In the kitchen.”
‘My little freckled face became red with anger. I went home and wrote letters to powerhouse feminist attorney, Gloria Allred... to Hillary Clinton (who was our First Lady at the time).
‘With the exception of the soap manufacturer, they all pledged support – and within a few months, the commercial was changed to, “People all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.”’
In a discussion of her ethnic background, she says she faces the question ‘what are you?’ on an almost daily basis.
She adds: ‘While I could say Pennsylvania and Ohio, and continue this proverbial two-step, I instead give them what they’re after: “My dad is Caucasian and my mom is African American. I’m half black and half white.”’ She adds that she has an ‘understanding that comes with living your life to the fullest so that it bursts at the seams’.
Miss Markle also wrote an article for Elle magazine last year about her racial heritage.
She wrote: ‘While my mixed heritage may have created a grey area surrounding my self-identification, keeping me with a foot on both sides of the fence, I have come to embrace that. To say who I am, to share where I’m from, to voice my pride in being a strong, confident mixed-race woman.’
In other posts, she has posted pictures of herself speaking at a United Nations event on the empowerment of women, at Glamour Magazine’s 2016 Top 10 College Women of the Year and at an event sponsored by cosmetics company Dove.
Elsewhere – in entries reminiscent of Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle blog Goop – she shares beauty tips, organic food recipes and advice on lifestyle choices.
One post is entitled ‘My favourite facialists around the world’.
She also has a ‘shopping’ section where she sells her own clothing range, which she calls the ‘Meghan Markle Collection’. Items range from a tight leather skirt to smart silk shirts and wet-look leggings, sold for high street prices.
