President Obama said he was rooting for the new president and said the entire American people should. He spoke at the White House where President-elect Trump is expected tomorrow. The Rose Garden address was his first public comment on the dramatic defeat of the Democratic candidate he had thrown huge time and energy into campaigning for. 'This is an intramural scrimmage. We're not Democrats first. We're not Republicans first. We're Americans first. We're patriots first,' he said. After he spoke some of his staff openly wept at the result, one saying of the day: 'I'm so sad'. Obama's call for calm came alongside similar statements from both Clinton and Trump. All three combined in a concerted effort to try and bring the nation together after a fractious and bitter election battle.

Entering to the music of 'Air Force One' Donald Trump stood onstage early this morning alongside some of his closest campaign advisers, many of whom are poised to hold big league jobs in the Trump cabinet come January. He gave shout-outs to Rudy Giuliani, Chris Christie and Sen. Jeff Sessions, who joined the families of Trump and his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, to celebrate their surprise victory on the platform.

Those, I can say with some certainty, were the words that only Donald himself and me ever thought he might eventually be saying when he first announced he was running last year to global mockery and scorn. Trump won because he challenged all political convention and every single facet of the establishment. I was struck by the sheer scale of cocky complacency which enveloped the Hillary Clinton camp in the past few weeks as Election Day approached. It smacked of precisely the same 'there's no way we can possibly lose to these 'ignorant, racist, sexist Neanderthals' establishment mentality that provoked Britain into Brexit in June. Hillary herself dripped with haught, superior arrogance, referring to Trump's supporters as a 'basket of deplorables'. I genuinely don't think she ever gave any serious thought to losing to someone like Trump, who will now become the only President never to serve in political life or the military. But, Trump, against all the odds and mockery, just won the biggest prize of them all. Congratulations Donald - now go prove them all wrong again and be a great president.

Miley Cyrus posted a video message to express her feelings that Donald Trump rather than Hillary Clinton is the nation's new President. A distraught Miley struggled to keep her composure in a Facebook video recorded in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

He was filmed trying to explain to Ms Miller - whose grandparents survived the Holocaust - that the flag outside his storybook-esq home 'was a comment on our new president-elect'.

Former Apprentice contestant Omarosa has revealed what was said in New York in the moments immediately after Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton on Wednesday morning. Omarosa (left, at Trump's victory party, and right, with the President-elect) said the Republican was in full 'Trump mode' just seconds after he was announced as President-elect. 'I was literally just standing next to him on the stage and just bawling. I don't remember a word he said. We were live on air. I just remember Mr. Trump saying to me, "Are you ready? Are you ready to come with me to Washington?!",'

Some, including Jessica Alba (right center) and Mandy Moore (top right) , are responding by making their profiles dark in the wake of this shocking result. Katy Perry (inset left) also made her Twitter profile a black box on Wednesday morning. Others, including Rihanna (bottom right) and Rose McGowan, have posted a photo that shows the Statute of Liberty crying (left) on their Instagram accounts.

But since Clinton's crushing defeat last night, the vocal Hillary supporters been silent about their future travel plans. A political sign supporting failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has been placed in front of a home in Brooklyn's Prospect Park as part of a temporary art piece. The sign backing the former First Lady and Secretary of State is part of Nina Katchadourian's Monument to the Unlected. Katchadourian's work features signs for all presidential candidates who have lost on the lawn of the Lefferts Historic House. The Clinton sign became the 59th runner-up sign included. Clinton was beaten in the 2016 presidential election this week by Republican candidate Donald Trump.

In an emotional episode for Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen, Elizabeth Smart confronts a retired fertility doctor who is suspected of using his own sperm up to 50 times on unsuspecting patients to impregnate at least eight women decades ago. She also brought together some of his children for the first time. Smart went to the home of Dr. Donald Cline in Zionsville, Indianapolis to confront him over the felony charges he is facing after he allegedly used his own sperm to impregnate at least eight mothers decades ago and admitted to six now-adult children to doing so. Cline (bottom right and top right), 77, faces two felony obstruction of justice charges for misleading authorities who were investigating two of the children's complaints against him. Desiray Strickland, 19 (top left), has been indicted for first-degree murder in the 2015 death of 17-year-old Jose Guardado (top right), who was killed at a live-in school in Miami in June 2015. Police say the attack was so severe, the victim's face had caved in as a result of the attack. In the interrogation video (main) after her arrest - released this week - a handcuffed Strickland is seen demanding to be let free, screaming at a detective and crying hysterically, repeatedly saying: 'I have no involvement!' She is heard yelling at the video: 'I did not kill that boy! I promise!' Strickland also repeatedly asks for her father. She is reportedly the girlfriend of the teen that is the suspected ringleader of the five allegedly involved in the murder, Kaheem Arbelo, 20.

Two bodies found in a 100-acre property in Woodruff, S.C., have been named as those of Meahan and Johnny Coxie, 25 and 29, who had been missing since December 2015. The young couple had become parents in September of that year and lived in Spartanburg, They had a history of petty crime and panhandling before they were last seen. Law enforcement believe they were shot then buried shortly after they vanished. They were the last bodies to be found on the land of Todd Kohlepp, who has confessed to the murders of four members of the same family in 2003, and that of Charles Carver this year. His girlfriend Kala Brown spent two months chained inside a shipping container, close to where the couple's bodies were dug up.

Russia has accused a Dutch submarine (file shot, left) of trying to monitor its aircraft carrier and follow its vessels the Severomorsk (bottom right) and the Vice-Admiral Kulakov (top right) in the Mediterranean, branding the manoeuvre 'clumsy' and 'dangerous', and warning of 'grave consequences'. According to the crew, this behaviour has never been caught on film before - and as the snakes swarmed in from all sides to hunt, a cameraman knelt just feet away.

Family members of Valerie Dowden Wells (pictured left and top right in red) say that jealousy may be the reason why the reality TV star was shot dead in an apparent murder suicide on Monday. The 47-year-old was a cast member on the 2012 CMT reality show Bayou Billionaires, which featured their family after they struck it rich thanks to mineral rights. She was found shot multiple times in her car parked in a McDonald's in Shreveport, Louisiana, as Sgt. Rod Johnson said she was killed by Robert Paul Gaddy (bottom right), 46, who then turned the gun on himself. They were both taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead and he later died. The victim's 15-year-old daughter, Nikki, told People magazine that Gaddy was jealous Wells had continued to speak with her father.

Four-year-old Noah Barthe and Connor Barthe, 6, died during a sleepover in Jean-Claude Savoie's apartment in August 2013. The python escaped by traveling through a ventilation duct and dropping into the living room where the boys slept. A pathologist who performed autopsies on the boys said they died of asphyxiation and each was covered in puncture wounds from snake bites.

President-elect Donald Trump's victory Tuesday has prompted embattled pharmaceutical executive Martin Shkreli to publicly debut some songs off the one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang Clan album he bought for $2million last year. Shkreli promised last month to release Once Upon a Time in Shaolin if the Republican took the White House. He made good on the plan early Wednesday by playing snippets of the album during a live Periscope video posted on Twitter. The video has since been deleted. Shkreli won an auction for the sole copy of the album last year. The album, in line with the Wu-Tang Clan's work, opens with a dramatic introduction driven by strings, which Shkreli played with relish as he drank a can of Cherry Coke.

Actress Uma Thurman has sold her Manhattan duplex for $6.6 million, more than $250,000 over her asking price $6.25 million. That's also nearly $2.5 million more than she paid for the three-unit combo in two separate transactions - the first in 2006 and the second in 2012 - that totaled $4.2 million, Variety reported Wednesday. The 2,800-square-foot property in a limestone and brick prewar co-op had been up for sale for six months.

Kimberly Goldman, 60, who jumped 100 feet to her death from a California bridge after running over her estranged husband, Dr Brian Halevie-Goldman (left at the scene), and two others, said she was suicidal and had no money left to her name. Goldman filed for divorce last month and said in court documents she had suicidal thoughts and made two 'serious' attempts at suicide, most recently in 1996, a local newspaper reported. The couple had been married for 27 years and have two adult children. On Monday, she had a hearing, which she described as an 'emergency', writing that the divorce case was a 'matter of life and death' and said she has '$0 left to her name', according to court documents. After Monday's hearing was postponed, Goldman ran over her husband, his attorney and a woman accompanying the attorney with a rental car outside Contra Costa Family Court in Martinez. Goldman later jumped to her death from the Benicia-Martinez Bridge (scenes following the ordeal pictured right).

A baby panda in China has recently taken a big step in her life. Peanut, a four-month-old cub, has melt the hearts of millions after she was filmed learning to walk at the Shanghai Wild Animal Park. An incredibly cute video shows the tiny bear carefully moving around by herself before her mother, Guo Guo, intervened to show her the ropes.

The Modern Family cast were in for a treat on Wednesday. Former American football quarterback Peyton Manning, 40, was spotted on the set of Modern Family with Sofia Vergara. The 44-year-old actress shared a picture with her 10.7m followers of her and the two-time Super Bowl champ.

Working with the US Navy, the test saw the amphibious transport dock USS San Diego  successfully recover the capsule. Divers attached lines from small boats to steady and guide the capsule toward San Diego, where a NASA-designed winch hauled the capsule into the well deck.
