Who wore it best? Melania trumps Hillary's white Ralph Lauren pantsuit with $4000 white jumpsuit from the SAME designer

  • Ralph Lauren silk crepe jumpsuit was made in Italy and costs $3,990
  • Melania proudly wore it to accompany her husband for his victory speech
  • The bold outfit echoed Clinton's repeated choice of white pantsuits
  • Female democrats wore white to cast their vote on Tuesday in support
  • They called Melania's election night wardrobe a 'slap in the face'

Her impeccable fashion has been a constant companion to her husband's unkempt bid for the White House.

And Melania Trump's choice of wardrobe spoke volumes again as she watched him claim the presidency on Tuesday night and early on Wednesday morning.

The next First Lady was dressed regally in a $4,000 white silk Ralph Lauren jumpsuit.

It was a thoughtful choice given Hillary Clinton's repeated selection of ivory pantsuits worn in tribute throughout her campaign to the suffragettes.

Melania Trump wore a $4000 Ralph Lauren jumpsuit to accompany her husband as he claimed victory in the US election at the Hilton Midtown in Manhattan in the early hours of Wednesday morning

Beaming as she took to the stage with her teenage son Barron, Melania's take on the classic look was predictably more daring.

A knee-high slit on the floating silk pants revealed her nude pointed stilettos and their chrome heels.

The jumpsuit was made in Italy by American favorite Ralph Lauren and is sold by New York department store Bergdorf Goodman for $3,990.

She finished her ensemble with a glittering diamond bracelet and her show-stopping engagement ring, proudly modeling it as she joined Trump on stage at the Hilton Midtown in Manhattan in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The choice bore the same tongue-in-cheek boldness of a fuchsia pussy-bow blouse worn at the second presidential debate, a defiant show of support for her husband after a 2005 hot-mic tape of his offensive comments towards women threatened to derail his campaign.

Melania's choice was a bold one after her husband's opponent's very deliberate modeling of the same style throughout the campaign

Democrats who turned out to support Clinton by wearing white at the polling boots were furious with Melania's choice

Melania joined her husband and their son at his victory speech early on Wednesday morning

Clinton wore a white Ralph Lauren pantsuit by the same designer to the Democratic National Convention in July.

The outfit was a nod to the suffragettes, her camp later revealed.

For the third presidential debate, she repeated the gesture in another Ralph Lauren design - a high necked, button-up pantsuit of the same color.

It resonated with her proud female supporters, many of whom wore white to cast their votes on November 8 and spawned the hashtag Wear White To Vote.

On Friday, those who proudly tweeted under it said they had changed into black clothes to mourn the result.

Some furiously scorned Melania's election night outfit as a 'slap in the face'.

The 46-year-old made a bold choice at the second presidential debate in a pink pussy-bow blouse. It came days after her husband's use of the word sparked fury and threatened to derail his campaign
