Banking shares rose across the world on hopes that Donald Trump would ditch tough rules introduced after the financial crisis. The 2,300-page long Dodd-Frank act was brought in to protect US consumers and outlaw the riskiest financial behaviour - ensuring the crash never happened again. During the race for the White House, the next US president repeatedly said he would repeal it.
Investors advised to keep calm in wake of Trump victory: It's a brave investor who tries to pick opportunities from political shocks
Investing experts are reiterating their pre-election advice : keep calm, stay invested, and wait for matters to become clearer before making big changes to your portfolio. This did, after all, stand investors in good stead after the Brexit vote. But opportunity knocks in times of uncertainty, and some assets, sectors and investing styles are being tipped to succeed under President Trump.

ASK TONY: Debt collectors are chasing me over a Santander loan that I've never had

YOUR MONEY ESSENTIALS
I'm retiring in two years - should I top up my pension or invest in buy-to-let?
Before you make any decisions about where to invest, whether to buy a rental property or what to do with your pension, it's generally a good idea to get a complete picture of your financial situation - and how it interacts with your wife's. In simple terms, this means adding up all your savings, investments and the equity in your home. These are your assets. Then do the same with your debts - your outstanding mortgage, overdrafts, car finance, any personal loans, store cards or credit cards. These are your debts. Assets minus debts = your wealth.
