Front Row: Suki and Poppy team up

We’re sure that someone once told us never to work with our best friend (if we wanted to keep them that way). But actress and model Suki Waterhouse and TV presenter Poppy Jamie – BFFs since meeting in an LA club five years ago – are flouting the rules by collaborating on accessories label Pop & Suki, inspired by their ‘love at first dance’ friendship. We quizzed them on their secrets to good girlfriending…

Poppy Jamie and Suki Waterhouse

The emoji you most often share? Suki: I’ve started using the coffin. It symbolises when something is so amazing that you just die. Poppy: The pizza slice, which says all you need to know.

The one thing you’d steal from each other’s wardrobes? Suki: Poppy’s fluffy creeper shoes. Poppy: Suki’s new PVC jacket, or the Jimmy Choo trainers she’s enviably had for years.

Who is the messiest? Suki: It’s me. Poppy claims that I make her messier because of my extreme untidiness. It’s borderline scary. Poppy: Suki, though I’m not exactly tidy. Whenever we live together, it looks as though a bomb has exploded.

How often do you text each other? Suki: Nonstop. Poppy: Infinitely! I wake up and go to sleep texting Suki.

Best party you’ve been to? Suki: Probably our week-long holiday in Rio. I’ve never laughed so much! Poppy: Too many! There was a Clueless-themed party which we went to wearing matching [lead character] Cher outfits.

Do you share the same taste in boys, food and clothes? Suki: Food–wise, yes. Neither one of us is picky and we are both massive pigs. Boys and clothes, not so much. But we are fans of giving each other a big high five on a winning outfit. Poppy: We have different tastes in fashion – Suki has a laid-back, tomboy style, whereas I wear dresses and heels. We both love a chai latte in the morning and go crazy over a bread basket, which we usually regret the next day.

What do you carry in your handbag? Suki: Two phones, plus a charger. Poppy: Make-up, money, vitamins, pens, paper, nasal spray – the list goes on.

Who would you love to invite to a dinner party? Suki: Lena Dunham, psychotherapist Esther Perel and actress and model Gal Gadot. Poppy: Louis Theroux, Sacha Baron Cohen, Amy Schumer and Arianna Huffington. Let’s make it happen!

The age-old problem with buying a party dress is worrying whether you’ll ever wear it again. What sprung to mind when we perused the hand-painted dresses of Hobbs’ new By Invitation collection is that they’d work just as well for this season’s soirées as for weddings next spring. This coat will also do nicely over a pair of jeans for an elevated weekend look. Limited-edition; in stores from tomorrow. Dress, £299, hobbs.co.uk.

It’s no longer enough for shops just to stock clothes on rails; they need to sell us a dreamy, Insta-inspired lifestyle, too. Joining the likes of the hugely popular concept stores set up by Alex Eagle is London’s Maiyet, a pop-up shop Front Row literally wants to move in to, selling art, design, fashion and (very healthy) food. At 41 Conduit Street, W1, maiyet.com.
