Oh, Jeez! South Park rewrites post-election episode to reflect poll-defying victory of Donald Trump AFTER initially scripting Clinton as winner

Many Americans had to revise their expectations when Donald Trump confounded pollsters and won the US presidency on Tuesday night.

South Park's writing staff are no exception, and even had to retool their Wednesday night episode, which originally centred on Hillary Clinton's winning the election.

Earlier in the day, an official promo of the new episode - now called Oh, Jeez - saw show staple Randy Marsh saying, his eyes wide and no smile on his face: 'Well, I don't know about you guys, but I sure am excited.'

'I sure am excited': South Park's staff have had to rewrite their episode for this Wednesday after Donald Trump defied their apparent expectation that Hillary Clinton would beat him to the presidency

In the clip, he's sat at the dinner table with his wife Sharon, who wordlessly tucks into her food as he speaks. The couple's teenage daughter Shelly sits fuming opposite her mother.

His face a mask of shock, the Marsh patriarch goes on to slightly modify Trump's campaign slogan: 'America's going to be great again. Aren't you excited, gang?'

'No, I'm not excited!' Shelly cries out, striking the table with her fists. 'It sucks, Dad! This country's gonna suck for four years!'

'This country's gonna suck for four years!': The original episode was meant to be called The Very First Gentlemen, and would have seen Bill Clinton commemorate his wife's victory by giving a speech at South Park Elementary

Her father, his face still devoid of even the faintest trace of joy, replies: 'Aw, come on, Shelly. We've learned that women can be anything...except for president.'

The animated Comedy Central series, which was created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone in 1997, has often taken aim at American commanders in chief.

A twelfth series episode called About Last Night... satirised the 2008 presidential election as a set-up by both the victorious Barack Obama and the trounced John McCain, who are depicted as jewel thieves heisting the Smithsonian Institution.

'We've learned that women can be anything...except for president': In the wake of the result, the episode has been re-titled Oh, Jeez

In a series six episode called A Ladder To Heaven, George W Bush orders Heaven bombed, acting on information that Saddam Hussein's manufacturing weapons of mass destruction up there.

The original version of this week's episode was meant to be entitled The Very First Gentleman. Therein, Bill Clinton would commemorate his wife's election to the highest office in the land by giving a speech at South Park Elementary.

South Park, which is now on its twentieth series, airs on Comedy Central at 10/9c on Wednesday nights.

'Aren't you excited gang?': The promo clip released during the day on Wednesday saw show staple Randy Marsh, his face a mask of shock, trying to convey enthusiasm for the new President-elect
