Hot to trot! Emmy Rossum is worlds apart from her Shameless character in preppy equestrian look as she leads stars at Vogue party

She's usually seen in tight or midriff-baring outfits as Fiona Gallagher on Shameless.

But Emmy Rossum proved on Wednesday that off-screen, her personal style is a long way away from that of her character.

The 30-year-old was dressed in a preppy outfit as she joined famous faces at the Ralph Lauren and Vogue: Celebrate Iconic Style event in Los Angeles.

Emmy's equestrian inspired look was made up of a blue blazer over brown suede trousers tucked into matching boots, along with a soft dove grey top.

The actress carried a bronze clutch bag and wore her brunette locks in bouncy curls, finishing her ensemble with lashings of black eye make-up and nude lipstick.

Emmy managed to flash a smile while posing for pictures at the fashion bash, although earlier in the day she had shared her sadness at the results of the election.

Hit show: On-screen, the 30-year-old's Shameless character Fiona Gallagher has a very different style

'I am a woman. I am Jewish. I am marrying an Arab American. My sister in law is handicapped. I'm a victim of sexual violence. It's personal,' she tweeted. 'We are in this together.' 

Emmy, who has not shared further details of her experience with sexual violence, is engaged to Mr. Robot writer and director Sam Esmail.

The star has appeared in Shameless since it began in 2011 and can currently be seen in its seventh season, portraying the daughter of William H. Macy's character Frank.

Emmy posed with the other celebrities at the bash, which included Camilla Belle and Dylan Penn.

Meanwhile model Dylan wore skintight black leather trousers with a matching shirt and structured jacket. 

She wasn't the only person from a famous family in attendance, as Ernest Hemingway's great-granddaughter Langley Fox Hemingway also posed for pictures.

Actress Bella Heathcote, model Elaine Irwin and Rich Kids Of Beverly Hills star Morgan Stewart rounded out the starry guest list.
