President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter on Friday morning to commend activists who revolted for a second night since his shock victory. He reversed his earlier complaint that 'professional protesters and the media' were responsible for the disruption, instead praising 'small groups' for showing passion for the country. Hundreds marched, burned flags and chanted in California, Oregon, New York, Maryland, Wisconsin and Minnesota on Thursday as the fallout from his victory rumbled on. Store fronts and care windows were smashed in Portland, Oregon, where police officially declared the situation a riot after three days of unrest.

After his inauguration as the 45th President in January Donald Trump will have to give up his own plane, with its luxury fittings, and fly around the country and beyond on Air Force One. The Trump Organization's Vice President of Marketing, Amanda Miller (top left) conducted a video tour of the plane after it was refitted at a cost of $100m. But the Commander-in-Chief will have to use Air Force One because it is specially kitted out with equipment which allow the Commander-in-Chief to use it as a mobile command center in the event of conflict or natural disaster.

Immigrants trying to smuggle themselves across the southern border illegally say they are abandoning their attempts because of Trump's get-tough stance on deportations. Young Hispanic would-be illegals waiting at Tijuana said they would give up because they feared that being caught would affect their families north of the border - suggesting that they too were living in the U.S. illegally. Trump made building a 'big, beautiful wall' along the southern border one of the planks of his campaign, along with tough deportation policies. But illegals living her for years said they did not believe it would happen, with one saying: 'Who harvests the crops in the field? Who washes the dishes in the restaurants?'

First Lady Michelle Obama met her successor this afternoon, greeting the president-elect's wife Melania Trump at the White House when she arrived and hosting her for tea.Press were barred from covering the visit that coincided with their husbands' 90-minute meeting in the Oval Office. The Trumps arrived at the White House via a private entrance on the south side of the building. They left the same way they came. A photo of the women chatting in the Yellow Oval Room was posted by the current administration hours later - and only after DailyMail.com put pressure on the White House to release it.

President Barack Obama and Donald Trump put on a united front and vowed to work together in what appeared to be a friendly meeting at the White House Thursday. But even to the untrained eye it was clear there was tension between the pair, and body language expert Patti Wood has analyzed the first meeting of the most powerful man in America and the person chosen to replace him. 'The thing that is very significant is Trump's hand position,' Wood told DailyMail.com, describing it as the 'downward prayer position' (pictured inset main and inset), which is not typical for the President-elect. Two detectives who rescued a woman after she was chained inside a metal container for two months by a suspected serial killer recounted the shocking discovery. Detective Charlynn Ezell, who found Kala Brown on a 95-acre property in Woodruff, South Carolina, told ABC : 'She just looked at me and said thank you so much for finding me.' Detective Bradley Whitfield broke down and added: 'I think we all saw a lot of things that day that are going to stay with us.' The husband of a missing California woman has been ruled out as a suspect in her disappearance after he passed a polygraph exam, authorities said. Sherri Papini was last seen jogging in Redding, California, on November 2 and investigators have since found long strands of blonde hair and a pair of earbuds along her jogging route. Detectives had been talking to partner Keith Papini as the investigation into his wife's disappearance intensified.

U.S. war veteran Luciano Yulfo was left with a big grin and few wet kisses on his face after being surprised with a service dog during a New York Knicks game this week. Yulfo is a retired sergeant first class of the US Army who served for 36 years and was severely injured while in Afghanistan. He has been waiting 18 months for a service dog and finally received one on Wednesday night, thanks to his daughter and the Knicks' Hoops for Troops program. The heartwarming moment was captured on video and showed Yulfo dropping to his knees as he was met with his new service dog, Murphy. The two seemed to become fast friends as they showered each other in hugs and kisses.

British Navy ship Wave Knight launched a Lynx helicopter to fire shots at the traffickers to bring their speedboat to a stop following a dramatic six-hour chase across the Caribbean. Once the boat was brought to a halt, a specialist team of US coast guards boarded the craft and recovered 14 bales of illegal narcotics. The cute footage shows three-year-old Max hugging and nuzzling Piper, two, at their home in Mission in British Columbia, Canada. In the clip, black cat Max has his arm around Piper, a tortoiseshell, and starts licking his neck and the side of his face. Their owner, who shared the footage online, said he and his girlfriend got rescue cat Piper to give Max a friend while they were at work.

And in Bakoun, Guinea, researchers have now discovered a new variant - using long branches or twigs as fishing rods to scoop up algae.

A man and a woman were hit by a car after they decided to play with virtual reality goggles in a car park in Russia. Virtual reality typically refers to computer technologies that use software to generate realistic images, sounds and other sensations that replicate a real environment. The goggles can help simulate a user's physical presence in this environment, by enabling the user to interact with this space and any objects in it.
