'She loved my curves!' Slimmed down Matthew McConaughey cuddles up to stunning wife Camila Alves after gaining 40lbs for Gold movie role

He gained 40 lbs for the role of a luckless bald businessman who tries to strike it rich in the Indonesian jungle. 

Matthew McConaughey is already winning serious plaudits for his portrayal of Kenny Wells, in his new movie Gold. 

But the 47-year-old actor said it was his wife Camila Alves who most appreciated his extra weight gain, as he collected an award in California on Thursday.

The Dallas Buyers Club star looked trim once again, as he posed alongside the stunning model, as they attended the 6th annual Napa Valley Film Festival. 

Camila, 34, looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder white gown, as she cuddled up to the Oscar winner. 

He told BayAreaHQ that when he was 40lbs heavier during filming, the model 'did like the extra curves' as did their three children - Levi, 8, Vita, 6, and Livingston, 3.

'My nickname [from the children] was Captain Fun during this time because I was saying yes to everything. If pizza night's usually Friday night then pizza night was whenever the kids wanted it. Tuesday night? Yeah! Wednesday night? Milkshake? Yeah!' he told them. 

The star received the Caldwell Vineyards Maverick Actor Tribute, which honors outstanding contributions to the art of acting and cinematic story-telling. 

He also explained how he connected with the down-on-his luck character, explaining that he met them when his father used to take him out debt-collecting when he was just 12.

'My dad would take me on the road - the oil business went under in 82. He was trying to fight against going bankrupt - out of his pride he wouldn't go bankrupt. 

'But he would take me on the road, to go collect from people who owed him money. So me being like a 12-year-old kid, it would sort of shame a man - and it worked sometimes.'

The Stephen Gaghan directed movie is said to be inspired by the scandal of the Bre-X mining company in the 1990s, and also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Edgar Ramirez, Joshua Harto and Rachel Taylor.  

Gold is scheduled for release on December 25.
