'We respect all people in New York': Governor Andrew Cuomo takes a stand against Trump and offers people 'under attack' to take refuge in the Empire State
- Cuomo made a passionate appeal in an email to New York Democrats, and reiterated his message in a Facebook post that has been shared 75k times
- He wrote: 'As New Yorkers, we have fundamentally different philosophies than what Donald Trump laid out in his campaign'

New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo took a stand against Donald Trump, offering people who feel 'under attack' to seek refuge in the Democratic stronghold.
Cuomo wrote: 'Whether you are gay or straight, Muslim or Christian, rich or poor, black or white or brown, we respect all people in the state of New York.'
Cuomo, who highlighted legislation in the state, included an appeal for donations to the state party ranging from $25 to $1,000 in an email sent to New York Democrats.

Cuomo's message was also reiterated on Facebook in a post that has been shared more than 75,000 times.
He wrote: 'The state of New York has a proud legacy as the progressive capital of the nation, and that is more important today than ever before.
'As New Yorkers, we have fundamentally different philosophies than what Donald Trump laid out in his campaign.
'So let me be absolutely clear: If anyone feels that they are under attack, I want them to know that the state of New York – the state that has the Statue of Liberty in its harbor – is their refuge.
'Whether you are gay or straight, Muslim or Christian, rich or poor, black or white or brown, we respect all people in the state of New York.
'It's the very core of what we believe and who we are. But it's not just what we say, we passed laws that reflect it, and we will continue to do so, no matter what happens nationally.
'We won’t allow a federal government that attacks immigrants to do so in our state.'
Cuomo gave a rundown of legislation that passed in New York, highlighting laws raising the minimum wage to $15 and mandating paid family leave.
He concluded: 'We are New York, and we will stand up for you. And on that, I will never compromise. Count on it.'
For Democrats already looking to the future, Cuomo has already emerged as a contender for 2020.
Hank Sheinkopf, a political consultant who worked with Cuomo during his 2014 re-election, told Politico: 'He never had it so good.'
