Kate Beckinsale sizzles in saucy leather catsuit as she fiercely tears down her enemies in new Underworld: Blood Wars trailer

She has starred in all four installments of the franchise so far, having first taken on the role in 2003.

But Kate Beckinsale is back and better than ever in perhaps her most famous role - as a new trailer for the latest Underworld film, entitled Blood Wars, is released.

The actress, 43, packs a punch in the trailer as she takes on her fierce, fighter character Selene once again for the fifth film - fighting off the baddies in a sexy leather one-piece.

She's back: Kate Beckinsale, 43, packs a punch in the new trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars as she takes on her fierce, fighter character Selene once again

Dramatic: The trailer begins with lots of wide shots of the war-torn setting, with werewolves and vampires at each other's throats

The trailer begins with a loud gunshot, before panning across to reveal endless characters wielding huge, powerful guns - indicating the film's war-torn, dramatic setting from the start.

Looking worlds away from her normal kick-ass self, the first shot starring Kate sees her being viciously attacked and torn apart by enemies, before she is left unconscious on a clinical bed.

The narration then tells the viewers that the Lycans are after her blood which, if they get hold of, will make their power limitless - and wholly destructive.

Hot stuff: Sexy as well as strong and dominating in the flick, the brunette is clad in a skin-tight leather catsuit for the battle scenes, showing off her incredibly toned and slim figure

However as the trailer continues Kate comes into her own as her warrior character, wielding her own gun and powerfully kicking down her enemies.

In a closer shot the camera then zooms in to enhance her stunning clean and smooth complexion as a stream of blood ominously trickles down her face.

The next installment in the blockbuster franchise follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her.

With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires - at risk of making a huge sacrifice.

The film also stars Tobias Menzies, otherwise known as Edmure Tully in Game of Thrones, who plays a mysterious new Lycan leader.

Originally set for October release, the film's debut has since been pushed back to January 6, 2017.

Under threat: The Blood Wars installment follows the Lycans on the hunt for Kate's character Selene - who want her blood, as it will give them limitless power

Star-studded: The film also stars Theo James, Charles Dance, Tobias Menzies and rising star Clementine Nicholson

Despite finding huge success with the Underworld series, Kate admits she wishes she wasn't so typecast by the role.

Talking to Total Film earlier this year, she explained: 'It has lasted pretty well. It’s a little bit depressing that that’s probably what’s going to be on my gravestone.

‘I’m far more comfortable with learning 70,000 words of dialogue. That’s much more in my comfort zone. Whereas jumping off things and doing a roly-poly in leather tights, that’s a bit like, “What the f**k am I doing here still?”

Shen then added, in her usual witty style: ‘It’s always been a hilarious joke to my family that I’ve been allowed to get away with it.’

Kate is known to have a very close relationship with her family - most notably daughter Lily, 17, and even her ex-husband and Lily's father Michael Sheen.

While the 47-year-old actor and Kate divorced in 2003, the pair are still on very good terms, and see each other regularly - despite Michael having found love again with comic Sarah Silverman in 2014.

Speaking to Chelsea Handler on her Netflix talk show Chelsea, Michael explained: 'Our relationship now is probably better than it ever was. And it helps that she [Kate] actually likes Sarah more than she likes me.

He added: 'The only way it doesn't work out is that now I have not only Sarah, but also Kate and my daughter Lily, who all just make fun of me and embarrass me at any given point.'

After her relationship with Michael ended in 2003, the actress went on to marry Len Wiseman - who she met on set of the first Underworld film.

However, the director recently filed for divorce from Kate after over a decade of marriage, citing the reason as 'irreconcilable differences'.

Better than ever: The new film marks her fifth in the series, and her first big release since divorce from the original Underworld director Len Wiseman

Do it in Dolce & Gabbana like Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale looked super chic on Late Night With Seth Meyers this week, wearing a Dolce & Gabbana midi dress steamed with striped heels.

Featuring a boned corset-style grey bodice, contrasting black flounced skirt and puff sleeves, this dress has all the hallmarks of the Italian fashion house.

We love this look on Kate, the sheer paneling combined with the ladylike midi length make for a sexy but sophisticated look and the fit and flare silhouette is super flattering.

Sadly this exact dress isn’t available to buy online, but you can follow the link on the right to shop the current collection at Net-a-Porter.
