Cringing Cowell! Simon is left red-faced after Dermot shares throwback picture of him with a VERY dodgy hairdo on X Factor

Simon Cowell was left red-faced after an embarrassing throwback picture of him surfaced during The X Factor on Saturday night.

Taking into consideration the show's 'disco week', host Dermot O'Leary took the opportunity to mock his boss with the retro black and white photo.

Sporting a glossy seventies style do, the music mogul, 57, flexed his bulging biceps while his former flame Sinitta cosied up next to him.

Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh immediately erupted into laughter, while Simon held his head in embarrassment over the snap.

Sharon and Louis quickly got to their feet to emulate his pose while Dermot cheekily observed: 'Looking a little Honey G there aren't we?

Poking further fun at the show's spearhead, Dermot told the crowd: 'I say Simon, you say Cowell! Simon! Cowell!', which the audience began chanting along to.

Still blushing in awkwardness, Simon lamented: 'By the way, that was not me!

Eventually deciding he had gone too far, Dermot called it quits on the joke with the tongue-in-cheek comment:  'He’s probably about to sack me again'.

Dermot was let go from The X-Factor last year after eight successful series.

His role was taken over from Caroline Flack and Olly Murs, however Simon confessed earlier this year he had made a mistake and offered Dermot his old presenting gig back.

Speaking to The Mirror in May, Simon revealed: 'I think there was probably a misunderstanding. I thought he wanted to go and he probably thought I wanted him to leave.

'Neither of us, being stubborn, spoke to each other and then we realised that we miss him,' he concluded.

Meanwhile, the remaining contestants brought their A-game for the show's disco week with the likes of Saara Aalto, 5 After Midnight and Honey G receiving standing ovations from the judges.

One act will get the boot on Sunday night's results show.
