Shine bright! Nicole Kidman glistens as she floats down the red carpet in angelic white for the LA premiere of Lion  

It may see her may land her an Oscar nod, but while she waits to see if she earns a nomination for a gold statue, this star is settling for a hint of silver.

Nicole Kidman went for a heavenly white look as she stepped out at at the premiere of her film Lion.

The 49-year-old did not wear the usual floor length gown for the red carpet event held in Los Angeles, California, on Friday night.

Instead, the Australian star opted for a cocktail length chiffon gown which had an unusual raw edge.

The sheer fabric was layered over an opaque white figure hugging slip.

Making the dress more red carpet-worthy, it featured striking silver embroidered leaf pattern.

While the dress probably will not land her fashion top marks for everyone, Nicole's hair and makeup was perfect.

The actress wore her red hair in soft but voluminous waves while her makeup was understated sans for bright red lips and dramatic lashes and brows.

Looking very striking on the carpet was Nicole's co-star Priyanka Bose.

She was joined by fellow Lion star Dev Patel who went for an envelope pushing outfit.

Proving there are more options for men on the carpet then simple suits, the star wore an ultra slim cut black suit with no belt or tie and a statement shirt featuring black and grey roses.

Saroo is also played by Sunny Pawar, who stars as the young version of the Australian business man.

Sunny was not at the premiere as he was initially denied a US Visa.

While the studio was able to secure a visa on Friday, it does not appear he made the Los Angeles premiere.

The eight-year-old actor - who is already generating Oscar buzz along side Nicole and Dev - will be able to attend the New York premiere next week.

Lion is set in Australia and India and is based on the true story and book A Long Way Home by Saroo.

In the film Nicole and David Wenham play a Tasmanian couple who adopt Saroo from an orphanage in India.

Then 25 years later, Saroo - now played by Dev - tries to find his birth family using Google Earth and Facebook.

The film is set to be released November 25.
