The couple have much to celebrate this week after Trump's father, Donald Trump, became the president-elect, beating rival Hillary Clinton in a victory that shocked the world.

It was reported the Trump told UFC president Dana White, who supported the Republican during the campaign, that he would be at the event on Saturday.

White told TMZ: 'Donald originally told me that he would come to the fight if he won. I don't think Donald really realized what his duties were going to be had he won.'

The headliner for Saturday's fight was Ireland's Conor McGregor (20-3), who defeated Philadephia's lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez.

McGregor, who is the featherweight champion, became the first UFC fighter to simultaneously wear two championship belts.

Alvarez won the belt in July by knocking out Rafael dos Anjos with first-round punches.

The card also included former middleweight champion Chris Weidman who went up against Cuban Yoel Romero.

Romero came out as the victor and has earned a title shot.

And former women's bantamweight champion Miesha Tate returned on Saturday to fight Raquel Pennington, who came out victorious.

UFC has been banned in New York state for several years dating from the sport's early days, when fewer rules and regulations were in place, according to the Los Angeles Times

But after years of UFC lobbying, Gov Andrew Cuomo signed legislation in April legalizing the sport.

The UFC 205 event was the first of its kind held at Madison Square Garden.
