It's a bird, it's a plane, it's... our prom dates! Teens earn instant online fame after wearing superhero costumes under their tuxedos (and even their dates dressed to match)

  • Subiaco Academy in Arkansas held a superhero-themed prom last week
  • Several teens committed to the theme, with the boys dressed up as Superman, Batman, Green Hornet, Captain America, and Iron Man
  • Their dates wore matching dresses, and some even picked additional themed accessories like printed socks
  • Later, they were joined by couples dressed as The Hulk, The Flash, and Spider-Man

They say girls really go for the bad boys, but a group of five high-schoolers proved that at the end of the day, the baddies have got nothin' on studly superheros.

Last weekend, Arkansas' Subiaco Academy, hosted its school prom, which this year had a superhero theme — and one group of students took it quite seriously.

Underneath each of the boy's tuxedo jackets and button-downs was a superhero uniform, and all of their obliging dates wore color-coordinated dresses to match.

While there was superhero decor at the big dance — and students all had the opportunity to take photos in front of a themed backdrop — eight couples decided to really go all-out.

In an image that has since gone viral, five of the boys can be seen staging their most superhero-esque poses as their pretty dates pull open the boys' vests and shirts to reveal their 'hidden identities' underneath.

Caleb Philips, 16, stands in the center as Superman, with a blue vest and bow tie to match his S emblem. His date, 14-year-old Ryleigh Hardwicke, wears a matching blue gown.

Say cheese! The prom was superhero-themed, but they truly commited

Aaron Brooks, 16, is dressed as Iron Man, which his date, 16-year-old Sophia Sewell, matched in a red dress. Ryan King, 16, is Batman, and his date, 15-year-old Katlyn Galla, wears black and gold to match.

Green Lantern Deacon Hardwicke, 17, is matched in green by his date, Alayna Pruett, 15, and Captain America Tyler Franz, 17, is matched in white by Katelyn King, 15.

And whereas it's usually the guys who match their ties to their ladies' dresses, the girls let their boys pick their superhero personas, which they went on to match with their dresses.

Even some of their accessories were picked to match the theme, with Iron Man and Captain America picking printed socks to match their alter-egos, and their dates mixing it up with sporty sneakers.

'I don’t know how some of those girls did that. The matching colors were incredible,' Caleb, who dressed as Superman, told ABC News. 'The girls were just really great about it and they had a really great time.'

Photographer Johnny Bolinger told Buzzfeed that the shoot started out quite normal before they pulled out the superhero surprise, and he was impressed with how coordinated they were.

'It was really fun so I just hope my other proms are just like it. Not with the pictures or anything, but just with the enjoyment, Ryleigh, Superman's date, told 5News.

In addition to the photo that has gone viral, there's another group shot that includes three more friends who also had fun with the theme, dressing up as The Hulk, The Flash, and Spider-Man.
