Actresses Emma Watson and Thandie Newton showed their support at the premiere of City of Joy in New York on Friday

The documentary follows a group of women living at City of Joy, a center that helps abused women move forward with their life amidst a war driven by greed, economics and colonialism.

While Emma and Thandie, 44, don't star in the movie, it was clearly a subject close to their hearts as they shared an emotional embrace on the red carpet.

Meanwhile Emma was seen in the first image for the reboot of Beauty and the Beast last week.

Dressed in a beautiful flowing yellow ballgown, the 26-year-old British actress looked every inch a beautiful Belle in the stunning new image.

Pick up a pretty pleated top like Emma in Dior

Emma Watson arrived at the City of Joy premiere in New York in her usual chic style.

She doesn't actually star in the film, but the movie's content is clearly close to her heart, ensuring she was present at the premiere to show her support.

Her outfit was stunning and understated in monochrome. The straight leg trousers were elegant and the oversized trailing pleated top was a work of art from Christian Dior's autumn/winter couture collection. The V neck flattered while the voluminous shape gave the look serious edge.

You cannot shop couture, but you can see the collection this piece came from on the Dior website (right).

Emma's costume designer Jacqueline Durran revealed the actress refused to wear a corset under her dress.

'In Emma's reinterpretation, Belle is an active princess. She did not want a dress that was corseted or that would impede her in any way,' she said.

Emma also told Entertainment Weekly that she has always been a huge fan of the original movie, which came out in 1991, when she was just a year old.
