Angelina Jolie's father Jon Voight reveals he wants 'things to work out' between his daughter and her estranged husband Brad Pitt

He was said to be giving Brad Pitt advice during the divorce proceedings. 

And now Angelina Jolie's father, Jon Voight, has revealed he hopes 'things work out' between his daughter and the Golden Globe winner - who were married for just two years.

Speaking at the premiere of J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them on Thursday, the 77-year-old actor thanked his fans as he admitted he was still holding out hope for the couple.

He told E! News: 'I appreciate everybody's concern and their prayers.

'Hopefully things will work out.'

His statement came the same week Brad was cleared by the DCFS following claims of abuse.

Jon and Brad have reportedly formed a close bond, and according to Us Weekly, the 52-year-old and his estranged wife's father have still been in contact.

'[Brad] told her dad that what he loves about her is how passionate and extreme she is,' a source told the magazine. 'He's been drawn to that.'

The insider claims the Mission Impossible star told Pitt that his 41-year-old daughter is 'erratic' like her mother, the late actress Marcheline Bertrand.

She died of breast cancer in 2007, at the age of 56.

Jolie was close to her mother, but her highly publicised relationship to her father has been rocky at the best of times, going through lengthy bouts of separation.

Awkward: Angelina is estranged from her actor father, but he is believed to still be in contact with Brad and has reportedly been giving him advice throughout their split 

'She is really p***ed at her dad,' the source told Us. 'She is really bothered that he is talking to Brad. 

'Angelina is speaking to [Voight] but not a lot and not telling him hardly anything because she doesn’t trust him.'

Jolie filed for divorce in September, ending two years of marriage and 12 years together. They have had no contact since the split.

The former couple are parents to Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, ten, and twins Vivienne and Knox, eight. 

It has previously been reported that Jolie wants sole physical custody of the their six kids while Pitt is pushing for joint custody.

Pitt recently had a tearful reunion with his children nearly three weeks after the divorce announcement; however his eldest son Maddox opted against seeing him, according to Us.
