Every bride dreams of finding the perfect wedding dress.

But some brides-to-be have revealed how they had their dreams dashed after they were left feeling hurt and humiliated at their bridal fitting.

Women have revealed to Redbook the worst things ever said to them while trying on gowns, and being told they must lose weight before the big day is just the beginning.

'The sales associate told me she wouldn't show me dresses with cut-out backs because of my back fat,' one bride-to-be, named Daniella, said.

'When I insisted on trying one on she poked my back while she was zipping me up and said: "See? No one wants to see a bride with rolls".'

But it's not just the sales assistants expressing their, unwanted, opinions.

Cover it up: 'The sales associate told me she wouldn't show me dresses with cut-out backs because of my back fat,' one bride-to-be, named Daniella, said

One woman's mother-in-law took it upon herself to decide what styles of wedding dresses would best flatter her daughter-in-law's figure.

But rather than focus on what she could wear, she honed in on what she shouldn't.

'My mother-in-law told the woman who worked at the bridal boutique not to let me try on any mermaid dresses, because my Kim Kardashian butt would take attention away from everything else she "worked so hard on",' a woman named Holley said.

Other brides found the size of their arms and hips were scrutinised, with suggestions on the best ways to cover them up.

While every bride wants to look her best on her wedding day, that does not always mean losing weight.

But this is the assumption of many sales assistants who proceeded to suggest women should ditch the kilos before walking down the aisle.

One woman was told the dress she tried on would only look 'amazing' once she lost 4.5 kilograms, while another was simply told to wear heavy-duty spanx.

One woman, names Euginia, was repeatedly asked if her fiance would like the dresses she was trying on, prompting her to buy a dress online instead.

While long-sleeved dresses are beautiful, one woman was only told to wear one so she could hide her tattoos as she walked down the aisle.

Maybe shopping online isn't a bad idea after all...
