Is THIS why there's always more yellow Skittles in a bag? Footage from inside a factory reveals why the citrus flavoured sweet may be the most popular
- Internet carried out investigation to find out why citrus sweet is so popular
- Footage from inside the factory shows rogue yellow ones in tubes
- Internet fiercely debated whether this was the reason why
For any sweet-toothed people who've pondered why there always seems to be more yellow Skittles in a pack of sweets than any other colour, the answer may finally be here.
One man, who carried out an investigation to figure out why the citrus flavoured sweet seemed to be in more ample supply, believes he has the answer.
An Imgur user took to the social site to share a snap of the contents of a party size bag of Skittles - and as the image attests, there's clearly more of the yellow hue than any other.
One Imgur user carried out an investigation to figure out why the citrus flavoured sweet seemed to be in more ample supply in a pack of Skittles. He shared a snap of the contents of a party size bag of Skittles - and as the image attests, there's clearly more of the yellow hue than any other. In response to his snap, another user shared a video from inside the Skittle factory, which may explain why
In response to the user's image, a video from inside the Skittles factory has been shared - and it may hold the reason behind the colour inequality.
The video from inside the factory shows the red, yellow, green, purple and orange sweets on a conveyor belt before being sorted into separate tubs based on their colour.
But, as internet users pointed out, if you look closely, there's a few stray yellow Skittles mixed in with the red, green, purple and orange Skittles in each tub.
The internet was quick to suggest that this is the reason that there's often more yellow sweets in each pack.

Reddit users were quick to comment, with one user writing: 'I imagine some colors are cheaper than others, which would encourage them to use more of that one'
Other users weren't convinced, each offering their own reasons.
One Reddit user wrote: 'Well the yellow dye may be their biggest order and they just make orange by mixing some yellow and red dye (instead of buying separate orange dye), and because of the bigger starting vats of yellow they may end up making more yellow towards the end of a batch to clean out the vats and start fresh.'
'Unless it's on purpose! I imagine some colors are cheaper than others, which would encourage them to use more of that one,' added another.
Another user simply wrote: 'I can tell you from personal experience that there's always more yellow. It's not just for skittles, it's the same for pretty much every multi-flavored candy.
'Whatever flavored is the least liked by everyone, which is usually the yellow/lemon one, is ALWAYS in a greater abundance than the rest of the flavors. I think it's like, a law of physics or something.'

One user did, however, vehemently disagree with the others, suggesting: 'I don't think the change in numbers is intentional (skittles didn't put a bunch of yellows because they are cheaper). It's just random chance during production.
'You'll see that even after only two bags, most of the colors are close to 20%. I imagine if you opened enough bags they would all even out to 20%.'
MailOnline has contacted Wrigley and is awaiting a response.
