Product Description

Micardis HCT is a combination of two components Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. The former is a white or yellowish solid whereas the latter is a white crystalline odorless powder. The inactive ingredients in the drug are Sorbitol, Magnesium Stearate, Lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, Maize starch and Sodium starch glycolate.

Medical Uses

Micardis is used in treating patients who suffer from high blood pressure. It works by increasing the amount of urination, thus excessive salts are flushed out from the body.

Micardis also prevents blood vessels from contracting hence flow of blood would be very easy. When all these happen, it lowers the blood pressure of the patient. This helps them to prevent heart attacks, kidney disorder and strokes. This medication is prescribed only for those who are not successful with other medication methods.

Dosage and Administration

Micardis is available in different dosages and they are 40 mg/ 12.5 mg, 80 mg/ 12.5 mg, as well as 80 mg/ 25.5 mg.

It is recommended to administer Micardis as prescribed by the healthcare provider. It is taken by mouth with a meal or without a meal.

To avoid urinating after going to sleep, dosing Micardis few hours prior to the bedtime can be avoided. Never assume a dosage and it is very important to consult the doctor before starting the course of therapy. The dosage of Micardis for an individual is based on their response to the medication as well as the medical condition. So it is not possible to generalize about the dose.

Just like other drugs, Micardis should be taken for a certain period of time to get effectiveness in treating the condition. When the patients take medication to lower the cholesterol level, Micardis should be taken at least four hours before or after the cholesterol lowering pill.

If the patient missed a dose of Micardis, it can be taken when they remember but if it conflicts with the schedule of the next dose, it is essential not to take the missed pill.

Side Effects

Weakness, vision problems, weight gain, excessive urination, jaundice, vomiting, seizure, stuffy nose, diarrhea, nausea, loss of coordination, hallucination, discomfort are some of the side effects of Micardis. Seek medical assistance if the patients sense any of the ill effects.

Interaction with other drugs

Lithium, Digoxin, Amobarbital, Mephobarbital, blood pressure medicines, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, Indomethacin, Meloxicam, Naproxen, Butabarbital, Phenobarbital, Warfarin, Coumadin, insulin or oral diabetes medications, and steroids are the drugs which may interact with Micardis.  This is not a full list hence consult with the doctor regarding all the medications that are currently taken.
