And old habits die hard for Australian heartthrob Liam Hemsworth, 26, who spent the day catching waves in Malibu on Sunday.

Clad in a full-body wet-suit that hugged his muscular frame, the Independence Day actor was spotted walking down the beach with a white surf board while a pal filmed him on a tripod-mounted camera.

At one stage, Liam was spotted grimacing after colliding with a particularly aggressive wave.

According to onlookers, the Hollywood star appeared to be in slight pain as he hobbled from the water.

The sighting comes weeks after his fiancée Miley Cyrus confirmed their engagement on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

During the candid interview, the Wrecking Ball singer confessed that she wasn't a fan of the 3.5 carat diamond ring Liam gave her, saying it 'isn't really my aesthetic.'

She also joked that it was strange to wear 'real jewellery' since most of the accessories she usually wears are 'made out of gummy bears and cotton candy'.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Liam's famous brother Chris has raised some concerns about Liam's impending nuptials to the controversial singer.
