Make like Madonna in Cuba, Kim Kardashian in Mexico or the Beckhams in Greece: The hottest places to holiday in 2017 according to A-Listers

  • Celebrities Instagrammed their exotic travels in various locations in 2016
  • For example, Madonna's 58th birthday party took place in Havana, Cuba
  • Elsewhere, Vanessa Hudgens took a romantic trip to Italy's Positano

Celebrities are the modern day taste makers - if they are influential enough, everything they wear, eat and do becomes a trend among the general public.

The same is true for their choice of holiday location, with places like Marbella becoming synonymous with the Towie cast, Ibiza as the boho Primrose Hill set's paradise and Aspen as an A-List ski haunt.

So, judging by where the stars holidayed this summer- where should we be looking to book in 2017?

Fans of the Kardashians might want to check out Mexico after being bombarded with photos of the family on a break in the country, whereas those looking for a taste of Madonna's cultural 58th celebrations should head to Cuba.

Alternatively, for a taste of old school European hospitality, follow in actress Vanessa Hudgens's footsteps on her recent trip to Italy's Positano.

For some serious A-List wanderlust inspiration, read on...

Make like Madonna in Cuba

Madonna chose to spend her 58th birthday celebrations in Havana last August, with family and friends

The first commercial flights between the United States and Cuba in more than a half century started in September, re-establishing regular air service severed at the height of the Cold War.

It opened a new era of U.S.-Cuba travel with about 300 flights a week connecting the U.S. with an island cut off from most Americans by the 55-year-old trade embargo on Cuba and formal ban on U.S. citizens engaging in tourism on the island.

As per usual, Madonna was ahead of the curve - the singer chose to spend her 58th birthday celebrations in Havana last August, with family and friends.

The group took several cultural tours of the city and dined on local food and pina coladas, while staying at Havana's Hotel Saratoga.

Kim Kardashian was among the 26million Americans visiting this year when she stayed at soft-porn director Joe Francis's villa Casa Aramara.

She was joined by a selection of girlfriends and also her two children, North and Saint.

Vacation like Vanessa Hudgens in Positano

High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens took a holiday to Positano with her boyfriend, Austin Butler

The sophisticated allure of the Amalfi coast has been captivating the rich and famous for more than a century.

But the small cliffside town of Positano, with its multicoloured houses and steep winding streets manages to attract more than its fair share of attention.

Sting, Rod Stewart, Beyonce and the Rolling Stones have all spent weeks over the summer in the quaint cafes and restaurants that line the coast.

Ooze holiday chic like Olivia Palermo in Formentera

Olivia Palermo is pictured on the beach on the Balearic island of Formentera

Olivia Palermo can make an item of clothing fly off the shelves by posing for a picture in it.

So it's likely that the reality star will have the same effect on the tiny island of Formentera - just off the coast of Ibiza, after she was pictured relaxing on one of its many beaches.

The smallest of Spain’s Balearic islands in the Mediterranean Sea is hugely popular among fashion designers like Valentino and Ralph Lauren, as well as music moguls like Jay-Z.

Formentera - just off the coast of Ibiza - is very popular among celebrities

In fact, there are few places where you are more likely to sit next to an A-Lister at lunch time.

Hobnobbing with the rich and famous doesn't come cheap though - prepare to be shocked at food and drink prices.

But their pictures from a summer vacation to Hawaii, which has long been a favourite destination for both American and foreign holidaymakers, were particularly envy-inducing.

The couple took their daughter Blue Ivy to the tropical US state for a break in June, posting a series of beautiful pictures online of their private villa and helicopter ride.

Following economic turmoil and a battle against austerity measures, the locals have also been on the front line of the Syrian refugee crisis.
