A police source told Daily Mail Australia that Barbaro was the key suspect in the murder of underworld standover man Hamad Asaad, 29 (right), who was gunned down in front of his 12-year-old nephew in Sydney's south-west, on October 25 (inset). Asaad was believed to be the shooter who pulled out a gun and unleashed a hail of bullets on Barbaro in Leichhardt in November last year, but failed to hit him. Police now believe Barbaro's murder was a retaliation attack.

Officers in Victoria were filmed being led on a bizarre chase around a roundabout while attempting to catch a van driver who began circling the junction, presumably as a joke. Footage shows police circling the roundabout at least four times, even turning their siren off as the pursuit slows to a snail's pace. Two other drivers even manage to use the junction while the chase continues. Eventually the van speeds away with the police following behind.
