'Let's keep fighting to make it a better world for our children': Katie Holmes shares rare photo of daughter Suri with powerful message

When Katie Holmes arranges a play-date, it's productive.

On Monday, the 37-year-old uploaded a rare Instagram photo of her daughter Suri enjoying herself with a friend.

In her caption, the former Mrs Tom Cruise wrote: 'Strong little girls that will become strong women. Let's keep fighting to make it a better world for our children❤️'.

'A better world for our children': On Monday, Katie Holmes uploaded an Instagram photo of her daughter Katie Holmes and a friend of hers making baked goods

The two of them had just been baking, holding up their frosting-smeared hands as they smiled for the camera.

In front of them were a couple of newly prepared cupcakes, as well as a mound of frosting in the corner that looked as thought it might be covering a cake.

Both girls were wearing pink aprons that appeared to advertise DC Cupcakes, the TLC reality programme about an establishment called Georgetown Cupcake in America's capital.

A bit of time to herself: The former Mrs Tom Cruise was also spotted that day heading out for a bit of lunch in the Westlake Village area of Los Angeles County

Establishment of choice: She'd alighted on Le Pain Quotiden for the day

That day, she was spotted out and about in the Westlake Village area of Los Angeles County, grabbing a bit of lunch at Le Pain Quotidien.

Her dark brown hair was bundled up into a high bun behind her head, and she'd popped on a pair of sunglasses with spotted patterning in the rims.

Grey horizontal stripes wound their way about the indigo field of her T-shirt, which draped about her impressively svelte figure.

Takeaway: She had a bag full of what appeared to be food as well as a cardboard coffee cup

Faded blue jeans tightened about her toned legs as she walked, sliding over the pair of black boots she'd pulled on for her day out.

She appeared to have opted for takeaway, exiting the establishment with a bulging bag and a cardboard coffee cup.

Her hands were rather full, as she also managed to balance a small black clutch and her iPhone alongside her Le Pain haul.

Vision in black and white: She'd spent the weekend at the Napa Valley Film Festival plugging her directorial debut All We Had

Holmes spent the weekend at the Napa Valley Film Festival, plugging her directorial debut All We Had, based on the eponymous 2014 Annie Weatherwax novel.

She'd cut a dazzling figure on the red carpet on Sunday in a black sleeveless jumpsuit featuring lacy white fringe about its neckline and near its hems.

A tight waistband emphasised her trim frame, and she complemented the look with a simply elegant pair of black stilettos.

It's official: On Saturday, she'd shared an Instagram photo of her festival lanyard, which had her marked as 'FILMMAKER/ARTIST' and 'Director'

One of her Instagram posts from Saturday showed a Filmmaker/Artist lanyard she'd gotten for her sojourn in Napa. Beneath her name was the film's and 'Director.'

The Batman Begins actress also produced and starred in the new film, playing a woman whose goals of  financial stability for herself and her daughter run headlong into America's recent economic crisis.

Having celebrated its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 15th, All We Had will open in American cinemas on December 9th.

In the offing: All We Had, based on the 2014 novel by Annie Weatherwax, is due for release in American cinemas on December 9th
