BREAKING NEWS: Oklahoma airport in lockdown with all flights suspended after at least one person is shot dead and a 'sniper's nest is found' in nearby parking garage

Police in Oklahoma City say at least one person was fatally shot at Will Rogers World Airport this afternoon, resulting in a lockdown, with officers saying there may also be another victim.

Oklahoma City Police Capt. Paco Balderrama said police have confirmed one victim in the shooting, which took place at 12.50pm, and received reports of a possible second victim, but authorities have not yet found that person. 

It has since emerged that the confirmed shooting victim, identified as Michael Winchester, 52, an employee with Southwest Airlines, has died from his wounds.

KFOR reporter Lance West tweeted, citing unnamed sources, that police investigating the incident have discovered a 'sniper's nest' in the airport parking garage. The Oklahoma Police Department has yet to confirm that information.

Balderrama said he did not know the condition of the confirmed victim, Michael Winchester. The police department's Twitter account later provided an update saying the man has died. 

Southwest Airlines released a statement confirming that the 52-year-old man killed in the shooting was an employee of the airline.

'The Southwest Airlines Family is deeply saddened by the passing of our Southwest Family Member, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies and support to his family and Southwest Co-workers at this time,' the press release read in part.

A man was seen lying in front of a ticket counter suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and officers were searching for a shooter, according to KOCO, citing unnamed officials.

At around 1pm local time, one person was transported from the scene in 'emergency condition' to a nearby hospital, according to News 9

Chopper footage showed what appeared to be a large puddle of blood on the ground, with several paramedics standing nearby.

Police urged the public to avoid the airport, which is in southwest Oklahoma City.

Traffic: An airport spokesman said Southwest, American, Delta, United and Alaska each have terminals at the airport and up to 8,000 travelers pass through the facility daily.

The airport has been closed, and all departures and arrivals have been suspended until further notice, and people inside the building were asked to shelter in place.

Airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said Southwest, American, Delta, United and Alaska airlines each have terminals at the airport on the city's southwest side, and 7,000 to 8,000 travelers pass through the facility daily.
